Anguirus instead of Rodan in Monster Zero?

Postby Godzilla1703 » Sat Feb 25, 2012 6:24 pm

Would that have been good? Or possiblly Anguirus with Godzilla and Rodan. It would have been cool to see Godzilla melee Ghidorah while Anguirus ram into Ghidorahs back with his and finally have Rodan drop a rock on Ghidorah from over head.

Nvm mine on the all 3 of them thing...thats overkill

I can't imagine a scenario like that even making sense.

Rodan had been established as an ally to Godzilla, while Anguirus hadn't been since GRA. It wouldn't have made sense.

A three-on-one would have been cool, but it wouldn't make sense.

They really didn't establish how they came to be allies, they just were.

It's all good.

i really cant imagine it with Anguirus instead of Rodan. Yet I havent seen the movie in so long, was there any part where Rodans skills came into play where it completely differ him from other monsters?

Godzilla, Angirus, and Rodan fighting Ghidorah makes more sense than Godzilla, Angirus, Rodan, Gorosaurus, Minya, Kumongua, and Mothra against Ghidorah. It's a shame there isn't already a precedence for three monsters fighting Ghidorah at the same time...

Godzilla, Rodan and Mothra all headlined their own films and were Toho's most famous monsters worldwide. To this day Toho considers them three of the studios "Big Five" (the other two being King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla). Once the success of KING KONG VS GODZILLA made Toho realize that Godzilla could become a franchise, they included Mothra and/or Rodan in the next four films to help ensure that they do well in Japan and overseas.

Angilas has never had that level of recognition or marketability, so it wouldn't have made sense to switch him with Rodan in MONSTER ZERO. Angilas started appearing more in the 1970s films because a new suit had been made for DESTROY ALL MONSTERS in 1968. And with the drastic drop in budgets Toho cut back on the FX which made a suit actor crawling on all fours much easier and cheaper to do than the extensive wirework required for Rodan and Mothra.

It's another one of those hypothetical threads that's really more of a fan fiction-y "replace Rodan with Angilas and re-write the story" sort of thing than actual film discussion.

Yeah, I noticed TK has alot of these "What if...?" threads...some are occassionally interesting, but otherwise, they're usually rather pointless. I wonder if I should start a thread called " What if it was the Giant Condor instead of Jet Jaguar in GvsMegalon"? :g2k:

Speaking of Monster Zero, I'd still like to become a citizen of Planet X. I mean think about it, a planet where all the women look like Kumi Mizuno! Who wouldn't want to live there?

First thing, it wouldn't be exactly overkill if Godzilla, Amguirus, and Rodan fought King Ghidorah, 3 monsters vs. the 3 headed monster, but then again already been done with Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra.

Second thing, I would rather have seen Anguirus as well but he couldn't fly. You need another flying monster.

On one hand you can live out the twin fetish fantasy or whatever. On the other hand I'd rather have some variety as all the women looking exactly the same (maybe even acting the same, and having the same tastes in everything) would be boring after a while. I know you're joking but I can still give a serious answer to a joke question. :P

Anguirus might've made a nice change of pace in this movie, but I agree that Rodan made much more sense. In addition to having already fought and beat Ghidorah in the previous movie, he's a far more dangerous weapon for the Xilliens then Anguirus. Being land-bound and with no ranged weapons, Anguirus makes a reletively easy target for the military; they could probably drive him off or at least limit his movement without much difficulty. Rodan can go anywhere and destroy anything he wants, and short of nuking him there isn't a whole lot humanity can do about it.
