Once my Gigabrain Showa KG arrives in the mail later this month, I think I might be done with my Godzilla collection for awhile (other than a few figures I am still looking for, I have managed to hunt down most of the major figures I've desired). However, I have virtually no Gamera figures in my collection, so I am thinking about filling in this major gap in the near future. Which would be a better place to start...the classic 8 inch Bandai route, the Marmit MH route, or a different company altogether? Also, was there ever a 8 inch scale Zedus produced by any company? :?:

If I was starting my Gamera collection from scratch again, I'd probably start with the X-Plus large scale Heisei-trilogy vinyls.

A couple of larger (about 10") size Gamera figures. The one on the left is made by Sega and one on the right is made by Rocket Pro.

I remember that Temptingtoys had some sort of vinyl figure of him for about $200 a long while ago.

Yes, the Altier (?) figure...not gonna find one of those for under 200 bucks, and that's IF you find one. They are very rare. The best, and cheapest (only) Zedus figure is the Konami candy toy Zedus. Not a bad figure for how small it is. You'll still pay 20 bucks ish for a candy toy which is baffling to me as I don't find Zedus that appealing, but if you're a fan of his the Konami figure is probably the best you're gonna do I'm afraid.

Atelier G-1 Zedus and Toto Set original price was 9450 yen. There was one for auction back in January 2012 unopen that someone won at $135 + S&H. And Tony had one for auction of a loose Zedus at $200+ which no one bid. Atelier G-1 produced these in both unpainted unbuilt and fully painted built garage toy figures. They pop up every once in a great while on YJA. In Japan you should be able to get them around 10,000 to 12,000 yen. No more than 15,000 in extreme cases.

Some pictures of my Atelier G-1 Zedus. Zedus arms have limited articulation.

The back spines are soft and flexible.

Toto legs can move. Legs need to be angled inward in order for him to stand up right.

Wood base were only available and signed at the toy shows Okuda-san of Atelier G-1 appeared at. Normally SF or WF.

And just for the heck of it my Rocket Pro Gamera that Legion1979 is offering to sell. It's a very nice figure that has very nice detail released in 2004. No articulation. Contracted to RIC division of X-Plus for sculpting. Approximately 8 inches in height.

I also have that Sega Gamera but never got around to taking pictures of it. It's also a great figure.

The Rocket Pro Gamera 95 is the best Gamera figure I've ever personally seen. It's also say that when this thing came out it was a crane toy if I remember correctly, you could find it over here for 30 bucks max...compare that to today's modern X Plus line and it's just sick. Yes, the Gamera used a softer vinyl, but it's roughly in the same scale as the 25 cm Godzilla line from X Plus and for a fraction of the cost.

Anyways, I'd say pick that figure up if you can.

FYI: Most people have problems with Gamera's legs eventually...they seem to fold inward on themselves if not packed correctly, an easy fix for that is to shove a dvd case between his legs to set them straight. I'd leave the case there for a week or two if your figure has any problems. It'll fix it right up.

Yes, originally a game prize in Japan. Then several months later Diamond Distribution imported it into the US with a suggested retail price of $34.99. The imported ones from DD have a their sticker on the bag.

Toto Height: Approx 7 cm
Zedus Height: Approx 16.5 cm (6.5 inches)
Zedus Length: Approx 21 cm (8.3 inches)

Zedus was such a great return to simple dinosaur monsters likes Gorosaurus and Titanosaurus. They really did a good job with him.

Agreed. While I was no big fan of Gamera the Brave and hated the "Toto" Gamera design, I really dug Zedus. After the "really out there" foes like Legion and Irys, I felt that Zedus was a nice return to a straightforward tooth and claw kaiju.

Aw, I liked both.

I imagine in a sequel Toto would've become a bit gnarlier like the old man Gamera that blew himself up.
