Yes.

It wouldn't matter what the guy did, Irys would still get angry, and simply knock him out cold with his extra tentacles.

I wouldn't say that the myth is stupid. There is some aspects of the film which support the mythological parts of the story.

The deleted scenes on the new Blu-ray make things a bit clearer. Although I say that based on the insane subtitles.

Which one?

There's several myths being talked about in this film. The only one I find stupid though is the knife one, so pointless.

Oh, if it only the knife you find stupid, then it's cool. I can see how the knife thing was pointless. It is the most minute plot device in the film.

Though now, imagine Old Lady Moribe just going all Inglorious Basterds on baby Irys with that knife.

I think the myths talked about in the film are only the different ways cultures have interpreted what originally came from Atlantis. They have different meanings but they all come from the same source. One saw Iris, and to an extention the Gyaos, as a phoenix while the Moribe family saw Iris as the Ryuseicho.

I just re-watched Gamera 3 on blu-ray for the first time in quite a while, and I must say its probably the best Japanese giant monster film since Terrorof Mechagodzilla. The only real negative in my mind is that it ended.

Do you see any way in which it could be that Gamera and Irys are in fact, embodiments of dieties?

Anyone else think it would've been hilarious if the dagger actually did kill Iris?

Moribe: "Do something dagger! Do something!"

Chucks the dagger. It spins through the air before impaling Iris with a loud CLING.

Iris falls over, dead.

while i was watching this the other day, that is actually what the kid thought, that all he had to do was to throw the strange looking bladed knife and it would take on a life of its own and kill irys. sort of reminds me of krull.. if he had really wanted to kill irys then he should have done it when he first rescued the girl, remember he had the knife with him and actually used it to get her free from inside the creature.

Make me as part of that "some people" group. Ayana's being able to pick up the stone when no one else could, Gamera being able to make Ayana conscious again, and something else which doesn't hit me right now makes me believe that Gamera is Gembu and Irys is Ryuseicho.

Just wondering, for those who own the G3 Blu-Ray from Mill Creek, do they tell who did the subtitles. When Tyler says "insane subtitles" that makes me hesitant as a researcher.

Gamera 3 was a very good, solid daikaiju flick....but it took itself *far* too seriously for my tastes. I always preferred Gamera 2 as the best of the Kaneko trilogy...

Gamera 3 OVERRATED

Postby MeltdownKoopa » Wed Jan 09, 2013 11:09 am

Am I the only one who thinks this film is overrated? The battles lack, the pacing is slow, the music fails to deliver. I like this movie but its way overrated. G.VS.D is a much better movie finale.

If you didn't say anything about the music I would've thought you were describing Godzilla vs Destoroyah.

I can agree with this to at least some extent.

The monster parts are fantastic...spectacular. Surely some of the best monster action ever. The part in Shibuya with Gamera and the Gyaos is one of the best daikaiju scenes ever.

However, everything else is kinda boring, and there is a lot of it, There is too much emphasis on the dark, pyschological aspects of the film, which aren't quite as deep and compelling as Kaneko thinks they are. Gamera GOTU has a much more acceptable human to monster ratio than this film.

And finally, I am no fan of Iris. The design is much too out of control. It's neither pretty nor cohesive.
