But movie wise I like Showa and Millennium Gigan equally and I like the Showa and GMK Ghidorahs (if the designs above didn't hint at anything).

I would to see that design of Gigan in future Godzilla films, sort of a mix between the Showa and Millennium version.

From the Godzilla Final Wars: Why All The Hate? thread (edited to focus on Ghidorah):

ebirahsmeg1 wrote:Maybe I'm getting old (early 30s), but I am a little dismayed at the large number of people who are saying they think the likes of GFW Gigan and GMK Ghidorah are the "best" incarnations. To each their own/everyone has the right to their opinion/blah blah blah...now that we have that obligatory PC nonsense out of the way....

...But it's GMK Ghidorah really brings my piss to a boil  I get so angry even thinking about this thing, which I refer to as KINO (KG in name only). Basically, they took what *was* Godzilla's arch enemy and most powerful foe and bascially turned him into a short, fat, p*ssified runt. And spare me the "oh, I thought his role as hero was neat and a nice change!" or "You just couldn't accept him in a different role other than as the villian" nonsense I have heard a million times before from people who laughably try to defend/praise this thing...my abhorrence of KINO goes far beyond the fact he was in the "hero's role" (Mecha-KG played the hero's role in GvsKG, and I love Mecha-KG). Hero or villian, I thought watering him down, shrinking him in size, and making him extremely weak and pathetic was deplorable and an outrage. It would be like a Spiderman comic and turning Venom into a midget and a vegan. Even more distressing is that TOHO seems intent on making this thing their preferred image of KG (hence look how they forced IDW's Zornow to change his Showa KG cover to the GMK version).

Anyways, now that I've gotten that off my chest:

...King Ghidorah:

1. Showa King Ghidorah - The *real*, true version of King Ghidorah. He was one of the few opponents that Godzilla needed help from various allies (Rodan, Mothra, Angilas, Gorosaurus, etc.) to defeat him. Sadly, I have lost any hope that we will ever see this type of incarnation of KG ever again
2. Keizer Ghidorah - I know some will cry foul and blasphemy, but please hear me out. I want to make it very clear, I *hate* this suit and design big time. Hate it hate it hate it. I also do not like the changing of the roars (although at least they sounded different/unique and not just like a variation of Rodan's roar). However, it's the only version of KG since the showa era that treated KG as he should be...which is as Godzilla's ultimate enemy and arch rival. Bottomline, terrible suit and look, but great job in capturing what KG is/should be.
3. Grand King Ghidorah and Heisei KG - I use to be a Grand KG fan because...well, quite frankly, because I owned the wonderful Bandai GKG figure  I owned the figure before I ever saw the film, and I thought "Now this is the KG design we *should* have gotten in the newer G films. Eventually, I saw Mothra 3 and...um....meh. :| Disappointed/underwhelmed/unimpressed/etc.

Heisei KG was a wonderful design and fitting update to KG...but sadly, he didn't really put up much of a fight and was defeated rather easily by Godzilla. Also, he looked *very* stiff when flying, especially in the scenes where he battles the jets. His roars were just high pitch versions of Rodan, and what the hell was up with the awful Dorats? Overall, both these suits look fantastic on paper and in figure form, but one screen they were somewhat of a let down. If we could just take the heisei suit and give it the power of Keizer KG, then perhaps we would have a worthy incarnation of KG.
....
...
..
-100,000,000,000,000,000. GMK Ghidorah

I think ebirahsmeg1 is being far too harsh on GMK Ghidorah. Does it have its problems? Yes. However, those problems are not due to the suit. They are due to the fact that Toho stuffed a kaiju into a role it did not fit. With that in mind, I think the suit designers did a very good job. The suit does not look sloppy, rushed, awkward, etc. It looks like the designers put a lot of care into their work here.

In a sense, ebirahsmeg1, it's the reverse of Kaiser Ghidorah. KaiserG had the proper role, but a terrible suit. '01 Ghido had a bad role, but managed to look good in spite of it.

As for Heisei Ghido - I don't think it's really an improvement on the original. I do not like his style of horns, and he seems badly lacking in mass overall. Still, that's just my opinion.

I think the GMK Ghidorah suit is fine, just the necks are way too short.

Not to mention the fact that he was smaller and weaker than Godzilla, my only negative to GMK.

I like Showa Gigan's character better. But I prefer FW Gigan's design.

King Ghidorah is trickier. Yes, Showa KG started it all. I love his design and personality. But Grand King Ghidorah is my favorite Ghidorah design. Heisei KG has a great design too. But when it comes to personality, Showa KG's psychotic behavior makes me smile every time.

..Right, but that's because Godzilla was supposed to be more powerful than all of the other monsters in that film.

Ghidorah looks... off. I don't like it.

Gigan is way, WAY too extreme.

Gigan's buzzaw is in a rather...akward...place.

I will admit that in the recent games, Gigan dragging his opponent into him and leaning back was kind of gay. If he dragged them into his crotch and leaned back... dear God.

What does that have to do with anything? And how is that "gay"? He has a weapon mounted in his belly, and puts it to good use.

It's always been awkwardly placed since it the Showa and GFW's go from chest to groin but that was kind of part of the charm, Gigan had a quirky design. but that fan design takes it too far by having only be the groin. O_o

Anyways, they're interesting but too much for the Godzilla series. They'd work better in a fantasy game or sci-fi movie that has nothing to do with Godzilla.

If they took Gigan's sadistic personality a step or two further, the buzz-crotch would just make sense. I'm actually more bothered by how they got rid of Gigan's beak. It's a cool fan-design though. That Ghidorah is neat too, but it's a little too bird-ish.

Favorite Gigan - Showa. The '72 design, to be specific. But I love both designs either way.

Favorite Ghidorah - Heisei. Once again, the '91 design, specifically. I grew up with this Ghidorah.

Gigan: In Zone Fighter where he had parachutes. Nah, I liked Showa Gigan in the movies. FW Gigan had a really cool look, but the Showa version is how I'll always know Gigan.

King Ghidorah: Although I love the Heisei incarnation, the Showa verision will always have a special place in my heart... It wasn't the first movie I saw, but Ghidorah, The Three-Headed Monster was ONE OF the first Godzilla movies I saw...
