Any surviving showa suits?

For the discussion of Toho produced and distributed films or shows released before 1980.

My bad, when you said "20 or so years later", I thought you were talking about when they were brand new (which would mean even something from TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA would be over 45 years old by now)

They probably look a hell of a lot worse, if they're even around anymore. Godzilla Magazine was around in the early-mid 90's, so these pics have to be almost 2 decades old, at least.

The heads for '68 Godzilla suit* and '67 Kong suit are still around. Ditto for MG '74's hands and flying model.

*there is an extra on the R2 Final Wars dvd showcasing the '68 Godzilla head.

If you think that's depressing, just remember all those suits have an additional 19 years of wear now! You're welcome.

This is kind of a side note, but their is a website where you can rent actual Godzilla suits used in actual films. This includes the Godzilla suit from Tokyo SOS and a MechaGodzilla suit also. They have nothing before 1990 though.

Could you provide links? The only suits I know they rent out are these:

http://www.toho-eb.co.jp/original_goods/index.html

Those don't look like film-used ones, rather ones used at exhibitions and stuff.

That is the same link I found. I read a review from Infinite Hollywood that said they were used in some scenes of the movies they came from, could be false.

They're definitely NOT the ones used in the films, that's a given.

Kinda sad to see your childhood icons just rotting away like that.

Isn't there that rumor of the suits of Godzilla and Anguirus from Godzilla Raids again still pack up in a backlot of some movie studio here in the states? *que ending scene from Raiders of the Lost ark*

Something about a long dead movie company from the 50s buying the suits from Toho to make a dinosaur movie but went out of business before making it, then everything got bought and packed up by another movie company.

So that means the suits might still be around?

No. Those suits have long rotted away by now.
But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks
Nor made to court an amorous looking-glass;
I, that am rudely stamped, and want love's majesty
To strut before a wanton ambling nymph.

Those wanting to know a little more about the "new" suits that were sent to the U.S. for "The Volcano Monsters" should listen to the commentary on the CM release.

Yeah, the suits built for The Volcano Monsters are definitely gone now. According to Bob Burns, the suits were already in bad condition when he took them out of their crates in 1957/1958. There's a picture floating around of the two suits with the men who built them, probably from some Japanese book. G-Fan ran a cropped version of that in the early 2000s.

^ Yikes, those suits look uglier than the ones used in GRA. Infact, I'd prefer them over these.

That Godzilla suit actually doesn't that bad, I kinda like it. Anguirus clearly looks like he's high though.

We should round these all up and have a cremation ceremony, like Luke did to Vader in Return of the Jedi.

Didn't someone here mention before that a bunch of the FW suits were burned?

I would like to know more about that.

That sounds like a tall tale if you ask me. Many of them turned up in the Godzilla Pachinko game from a couple of years ago.
