My girlfriend wants to watch a Godzilla movie - which one?

My girlfriend is coming over on Friday. She knows I love Godzilla and wants to watch a Godzilla movie with me. She's never seen one.

We're both in our 30s. Not sure if this is relevant, but in case it is, I thought I'd mention it.

Which movie do I put on? I have just about all of them on DVD.

Hmm... does she want a new one, or an old one? If old, I would go with Gojira or Mothra vs Godzilla, and if a new one, then G2K or GMK. Biollante could also be a fair choice.

I'd go with Mothra vs. Godzilla. Its a pretty good intro to the Godzilla series for anyone who doesn't know much about Godzilla, and just a great film in general.

I'd start with Godzilla 1954, Godzilla 1985, or even Ghidorah the three headed monster... GMK also wouldn't be a bad start neither.

Those are just my picks if my girlfriend was coming over to see her first G-film.

Ask what type she'd prefer- serious, goofy, or somewhere in between. That's what great about the series, there's something from just about everybody.

I think it's good to watch the movies in order so I say the original or at least the Raymond Burr version.

You know, this is just my personal outlook, but the last thing I would want to show my girlfriend is a movie with very graphic images of people dying in hospitals. Not that I think Godzilla is bad, just that if I wanted to show my girlfriend a Godzilla movie, the first one I would turn to would not be the dark and depressing one.

sine they just want to have a blast watching them so as replacement then it will have KKvsG or GMK.

^ Yeah, I don't see the need to start in chronological order. One of the nice things about the Godzilla franchise is that you don't have to have watched other Godzilla movies in order for the later ones to make sense. You could start at any point in the franchise, and not be confused by what's going on. Of course, there are exceptions, like the Kiryu Saga or watching The Return Of Godzilla without watching Godzilla, but whatever.

I laughed when I first read this, them stopped to think about it, and your right! Chicks do seem to like Mothra (Although I admit I don't know many who watch Godzilla). I think it's the fairies that does it.

Final Wars. It's fun, accessible, crazy, campy, modern-looking, has strong ties to current(ish) pop culture (Star Wars, The Matrix, X-Men) and even has a bit of a heart (the Minya subplot). Final Wars is the Godzilla movie for non-fans.
