Showa Godzilla Films You'd Like To See Remade

Which Showa films would you like to see remade? For sake of argument let's say Toho decides to remake one of the Showa kaiju films. Which would you like to see remade and why?

I don't want any of them remade, and I don't think they should do any more sequels to the original either. I want them to do something like Gamera, the Guardian of the Universe and start fresh.

I prefer the films from the 60's, but I don't want to see any of them re-made. I would actually like to see a new film made in 60's Showa style. BUT, I would like to see a couple films from the 70's re-made - Godzilla vs Megalon and Godzilla vs Hedorah.

I already like Godzilla vs Hedorah, but with modern effects and a better score, it would be that much better. As for Godzilla vs Megalon, there are a lot of positive things about that old crappy film - Godzilla, Gigan, Megalon, Jet Jaguar etc. I think if you give that film even more of a Sci-Fi element, it could be a really cool and fun film.

but, for the sake of the thread i will say The Mysterians, Varan, Rodan or even Mothra would be nice.

I know I say this every time a question like this pops up, but King Kong vs Godzilla. Don't get me wrong, I love the original, but I'd love to see a modern take on the greatest monster mash of all time. Especially one that doesn't have a hilariously shitty-looking Kong. Mutant dinosaurs, giant insects, huge mecha, space monsters, Toho can build it all... except for a decent ape suit, apparently.

ScootaVaran, The Mysterians would be interesting to see remade. It's quickly become one of my favorites, and I definitely wonder how a remake would go. If it did get remade, I'd REALLY hope they'd try to capture the kitschy charm of "horny space-guys show up with giant robots, sweet lasers and weather control attacks to steal our women!" instead of just turning it into the one millionth rehash of War of the Worlds/Independence Day.

Hmm...tough call. I'd say none, but if any, I'd say All Monsters Attack. I think it'd be a lot more respectable if the stock footage fights were new fights and if the suits for Gabara and Minilla looked better.

Oh man, I thought Gabara was awesome looking, easily one of the highlights of the movie. Minya's three tiny little meth-mouth teeth always creeped me the skreeonk out though, I'd love to see a better Minya suit. Minya's bacne (back acne) is pretty disgusting too. Toho really boofed it on making a cute baby monster.

It's hard to make a monster like Minya cute. I mean, c'mon...

I dig Gabara's design in AMA, I just would like to see a modern rendition of it.

It can't be that tough, they managed it with Baby/Little Godzilla in the Heisei movies. Even FW Minya, while fairly different-looking from the Showa Minya was a huge step up.

Godzilla vs Gigan using the original "Godzilla vs the Space Monsters" script with Godzilla, Angilas, and Majin Tuol (or replace him with Varan ) vs King Ghidorah, Gigan, and Megalon....I always felt that this script would have made an *amazing* dakaiju film....

It still would have been full of stock footage and old Ifukube tracks. Just because it all sounds cool doesn't mean the end result would have been anything better than what we got.

Despite is campyness, KKvsG remains as one of my favroites of the Showa era. Sadly the awesomeness of a modernized KKvsG exists only in my imagination.

As good a Varan would be, I think that Baragon would be better if he was allowed to use all of his powers, if you don't mind, let me show you.

Well true but all the monsters nowadays shoot something out of some orifice. i think it would be nice to go back to a monster that really does none of that just brute force. probably a 50s period piece would fit better for that though.
