What are the warning levels?

I was going through my profile and I saw this Warning Level system. I am confused, when did this start and what do the levels mean?

Any time the site staff feels that someone went against the rules of the forum, they are given a warning. These warnings build up, and after a certain amount of warnings, actions will be taken. Once someone has three warnings, they are given a one-week ban. Once someone has five warnings, they are given a one-month ban. Once someone has six warnings, they are permanently banned from the site. These warnings do not reset after someone has had a temporary banning also. As I recall, warnings do eventually go away after 90 days, but I could be wrong.

The warning level in your profile goes down after a certain amount of time, but the mods keep track of your warnings, so they never disappear.

I thought ole' Anthony said that the number of warnings one receive is irrelevant to whether they get banned. That was a while ago though, so my memory could be faulty...

That has changed. Around the time Stuckey became an admin, the number of warnings it takes to get banned changed to six. Before that, I believe it was ten.
