Ok, so I got a new HDTV, and its been swell so far. But, there's just one problem; my DVDs look like crap on it.
Here's my setup as of now:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... 8-Copy.jpgNow my equipment:
A JVC HDTV with full HD and HDMI.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3781.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3779.jpgAn esa DVD/VHS player with Progressive Scan (no idea how that works).
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3775.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3776.jpgAnd a Bose sound system with some nice speakers.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3782.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3783.jpgHere are all the plugs and wires I got going on.
JVC:

http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3801.jpgBut for some reason, but DVDs come out looking pretty bad. Here are some shots from the Spacegodzilla/Destoroyah DVD menu.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3792.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3784.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3793.jpgAnd no, its not my camera. That is exactly how pixalated it is. Whats weird is for a split second after a page loads, the quality will look fine, then downgrade.
Example:
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3790.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3791.jpgThe movie itself doesnt fair much better.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3795.jpgI do have some HD cables that can run from the JVC TV to the esa player.
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3805.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3807.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3806.jpgBut they dont do anything. Not a thing. Even playing with the esa's Video settings (switching between S-Video & Component) does nothing. Hell, even putting these supposed HD cables into the regular gives me the exact same level of quality! Hows that work?
Now, the Xbox 360 can play HD stuff just fine. Games look great (set at 1080i).
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3821.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3810.jpgAnd once I put my DVD in...
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3812.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3818.jpghttp://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b387/ ... G_3816.jpgYeah. Looks good. Still not 100% but that can probably be attributed to the DVD itself. It aint exactly breathtaking no matter how you watch it.
So basically what I need help with is; can anyone think of a way to make this mess work? The esa DVD/VHS player apparently cant do HD despite having the plugins for it, and me having the cables to do it. Is it just not compatible with my JVC TV? Is there some setting I need to adjust to make it look NOT shitty?
Also, what is best for playing regular DVDs on a 360?
480p, 720p, or 1080i?
