I get the feeling a topic for this already exists, but I have no real proof.

I read the first book around Christmas and I enjoyed it. It gets pretty intense for a teen novel. I'll give the movie a shot.

I just started reading the books. Hopefully the film will stay faithful to the story.

I did search, but didn't find anything, we read the first book as a class in 8th grade.

Here's the original topic:

Anyway, I've never read the books, but I'm looking forward to the movie, mostly because of Josh Hutcherson. Ever since I saw Bridge to Terabithia, he's been one of my favorite actors.

I swear to god, Schools are working for Hollywood. My little sister is in 6th grade, and in her reading class, when they are assigned books to read, they come out with a movie for the same book a few months later!!

My sister read Mr. Poppers Penguins. The Movie was announced a few weeks later.

They Just finished reading this book, then the movie started being promoted.

I mean it. schools are being hired by hollywood, they make the kids read these books, to get them excited for the movie so more tickets are sold.

It's all a conspiracy man!!!

^^ no, it's money.

Movies based on kids books are cash cows. They dont really need to be amazing to make fast cash.

Have to agree. I read mister poppers penguins when I was little about a decade ago. The book is pretty old. Now I don't know about the Hunger Games so you could be right.

Correct.

I was pointing out that at my sisters school, the last few books she had read, they have had movies released not to long after they read them.

I finished the book - which was very good - then re-watched the trailers. I also found out the Suzanne Collins wrote the film adaptation herself.

I'm starting to get high hopes for this film....

This happens alot, because distributors sell the books at cheaper/discounted rated to get schools to pump kids up for the movie and generate more income for theatre tickets.

Happened with Harry Potter as well. And Twilight.

I never read the books and the movie does not seem that great to me. The movie feels way too similar to The Running Man (1987) which came out 24 years ago.

I'll probably read the book first, but it sounds quite interesting. Stories about dystopian and pseudo-utopian futures appeal to me, like 1984, Fahrenheit 451 or The Giver.

There are, however, other young adult/teen novels I'd want to see movies of more than this, such as the Pendragon series or The House of the Scorpion. Any of you guys ever read those?

I read the Giver in the 8th grade. What a freaky-ass book for kids to read.

I think it's a great book. Very interesting look at the idea of a utopia and the dystopian measures that could be necessary to achieve even an approximation of it.
