I don't follow Pokemon, but would think that the people who created the characters and make the shows/movies have the right to decide what their own creations should sound like.

It thinks it's just a matter of listing every Toho related movie. Surely Hollywood productions distributed in Japan don't have Toho's logo. On the other hand, stuff like The Ring or the Gamera trilogy do.

Like Keith said, they do. And since Toho is the biggest movie company and distributor in Japan and since - by TK law - anything Toho distributed is technically a Toho film, I'm going to go start threads on a shit-ton of Disney movies in the "General Toho" section...

There's a fundamental difference between a distributed Japanese film and an American one. Nobody is saying My Neighbor Totoro is a Toho produced film, they're saying it's a film related to Toho, even if vaguely.

But my stance has always been, how is a film really related to the company that just distributed it? It's not like Toho did anything to help make it. As far as I'm concerned, Kaneko's Gameras are DAIEI films. Toho just happened to distribute them, just like they happen to distribute lots of other movies.

I don't hate it (hating an internet thread is pretty ridiculous) but it IS pretty dumb.

Toho's sound effects library (the monster roars) have always been used by other companies going all the way back to the Ultra series where - for hardcore Godzilla fans - the roars sound alien coming from different monsters. That Pokemon does this too is nothing new and it's not a matter of Toho doing anything "wrong". Toho doesn't MAKE Pokemon anyway, so the point is moot.

How does one post stating the most simplest answer ruin the entire thread? And it's not like the thread is anything special.
I actually think the roars were a good thing with the movies, it's almost everything else that isn't. Namely changing way too many character designs and silly story lines.

But the problem Im having is figuring out why certain things were done the way they were. Toho had full control on what was used and how it was used. Certain cries don't fit the concept of the monster that it's being used for. Get what I'm saying?
