Ace Combat

Rather than bothering to discuss all the individual games in their own threads, it seemed more prudent to lump them all together in one discussion topic.

So, who else here plays games from this series? What are your favorite games in the series? What don't you like about it? Etc, etc...

Me, personally...this is one of my favorite game series of all times. I've played every game in the series except for 6 (and Advance, but the less said about that one the better). The series offers all the thrills of high speed aerial combat, without all the downsides of realistic flight controls. Complete with photorealistic graphics in some of the later installments and plenty of planes to choose from, the series offers a lot of fun. The soundtracks are usually awesome too.

So, anyone else here a fan likes yours truly?

I loves me some Ace Combat. Easily one of my favorite game franchises. Haven't played any of the more recent games due to not having either a 360 or PSP, so needless to say I was VERY happy when I found out the new game is coming out on the PS3.

I played the first or second game years ago, I remember not liking it at all.

Love the Ace Combat games. To this day, The Unsung War is one of my favorite games of all time. I keep meaning to pick up Fires of Liberation, but it keeps get back-burner'd as I try to find games my fiance and I can play together.

RISE FROM DEATH, YE THREAD!

Just finished the story mode for Ace Combat: Assault Horizon earlier. The game was overwhelmingly... meh. Easily my least favorite AC game. The new Dog Fight Mode mechanic is nothing but an annoyance. It could be cool if it was tweaked somewhat, but I'd rather it just got dropped entirely. The fact that the game shoves it down your throat and forces you to use it just makes it worse. And the final boss is just obnoxious. The selection of aircraft is really disappointing too.

The Apache levels were really damn fun though.

^See, that really disappoints me. I watched a LP or walkthrough on Youtube, and it looked pretty awesome. Not quite the same as the old school titles, but still kinda interesting. Of course, since the remake of AC2 (Assault Horizon Legacy) is only on the 3DS, that means there's another game in the series I can't play.

Damn you Namco...

OMEGAREX IS ALIVE?!?!

That is pretty disappointing. I actually had some fairly high expectations from the trailers and such. Oh well, I guess I'll pass on this one.

Yeah, it LOOKS awesome. That's the problem: the game tries to be too cinematic. If someone is sitting there watching you play, it looks awesome. Actually PLAYING is much less awesome.

If you can find it used or otherwise get it cheap, you might wanna pick it up. But I paid full price and I regret it.
