I think it appears to be a real plan from Banno that he is shopping around to potential investors, but with no word on whether production is actually happening. It probably won't happen anytime soon if it does at all, considering Banno is doing production work on Legendary Pictures' Godzilla.

Keef has it right. The Advanced Audiovisual Productions site list projects that they are developing. It's designed to describe a film to potential investors, but until investors sign on there's no guarantee any of these projects will ever go into production. Yoshimitsu Banno was pitching his GODZILLA 3D for years with no buyers; but when Legendary decided to do their own GODZILLA 3D they absorbed his project into their own (which means his version won't get made but he'll get an Executive Producer credit and a nice paycheck from the Legendary film). Gamera is not as commercial as Godzilla so he'll be an even harder sell to investors, but if Banno can get the 3D film off the ground it might be fun. But until there's official word that investors have signed and production has started I wouldn't put much stock in any release dates that are (or will be) announced.

The best hope for a new Gamera movie really would be the bounce effect. Were the next Godzilla is a hit and they make a new Gamera movie on the back of that and the Kaiju move bubble ssurrounding it. I think the Final Wars thing could work but it's not very original. Better to try and repeat the (critical) success of the trilogy.

I would love to see the Gamera equivalent of Destroy All Monsters or Final Wars. The Gamera series is so small you could practically fit every single monster ever into one DAM or FW-style movie.

Unfortunately since movie-goers aren't showing interest in giant monsters, no studio is going to take the gamble on making a giant monster movie. If the king of the franchise isn't getting new movies, lesser-known monsters like Gamera definitely won't. I doubt we'll see something like this any time soon. It would be outrageously cool, though.

Hopefully if/when LP Godzilla comes out it'll be a huge smash and usher in a new giant monster movie boom. The special effects technology has finally caught up to the ambitious premise of the genre. I'd love to see an explosion of kaiju movies comparable to what we've seen happen to superheroes, zombies and vampires. Of course, I hoped this with Peter Jackson's King Kong, Cloverfield and even the first Bayformers movie (they're... kinda giant monsters!). But I'm nearly going off on a tangent, so I'm-a stop myself before I get carried away. To recap, whether we get new Gamera depends almost entirely on what, if anything, happens with LP Godzilla.

Wow, a 'Gamera Final Wars' would be really epic. They could bring in the Heisei monsters along with the Showa ones, it could revive this now dead series.
Making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Just to continue my tangent above (just for a second!) I remembered that US studios seem to be embracing the giant monster genre. Pacific Rim seems to be well underway (directed by Guillermo del Toro and co-starring Charlie Day! DOUBLE AWESOME), plus Monsterpocalypse, Cloverfield 2 and LP Godzilla (of course) all seem to be in various stages of pre-production. So Gamera's potential future doesn't lie just with Godzilla, but a multi-movie attempt at rejuvenating the genre. Let's hope these movies are A. good and B. financially successful. That magic combo is what Gamera needs to spin his way back onto the big screen.
