Pteradactylus: Classified
Chapter 1
High Seas
GMCD Headquarters
Los Angeles, California, 8:03 PM Pacific Time.
Dick Mason sat in his office, choked full of the cancerous smoke from the 5 cigars he went through in what was another typical work day for him. He had recently been put in charge of the communcations sector of the GMCD headquarters building where they monitoried everything from GMCD military coms to alleged sightings of new monsters. When a monster was sighted, the usually dull and stagnant office erupted with life and energy. When an existing monster was sighted, Dick would generally think:
"Oh, its him again..."
Or
"Oh look its so-and-so, no big deal"
Dick never took these creatures sereously. Probably because he'd never been around when one came waltzing through the neighborhood. By the same token, he had no interest in being there when one came around town. He'd much rather be in his cozy little office then in the midst of pissed off giant Pteradactyl or an enraged mutant Armadillo. No, Dick was happy just where he was. He took a box of cigars off his desk with his right hand and his lighter with his left. From the box he removed his 6th cigar today and lit it. He took a long drag when his co-worker Tracy Bates came barging in holding a mound of papers and his suitcase. His clothes and hair where dissheveled as if he had gotten into a fight on the way over. Dick casually looked over at his co-worker and raised a brow, taking the cigar out of his mouth to speak.
" 'The hell happened to you?" he asked.
Tracy stumbled through the doorway and set down the messy pile of papers and straightened his jacket.
"I was, uh, running late again..." Tracy smiled sheepishly as he fumbled with the buttons of his coat.
Dick looked Tracy with a lazy expression on his face as he took another drag. Tracy looked back at him with a worrysome look.
"Come on man dont tell the chief" He said with a tone that matched his look.
"Relax Bates, I sit on my ass all day in here and the Chief never gives me shit. You'll be fine.." Dick replied, confident in the fact that the Chief lets people get away with one too many things. Dick couldnt blame him, really. When theres giant man-eating monsters running around who destroy cities for shits and giggles, your employees where the least of your worries.
Dick's words served as a bit of relief for Tracy, who now looked more relaxed than he did when he came in. Tracy walked over to his desk and sat down, opening the right drawer of his desk and taking out a stack of papers and a pencil. Tracy began to write away as Dick looked away back at the bulky radio console that sat on his desk. Dick was hoping that he could go through a single day without that radio causing a racket about a monster sighting that was probably a misidentification or hoax.
In a way Dick felt a little stupid about his job. To him the GMCD was basically the monster police. He wouldnt be surprised if the Loch Ness Monster was sighted in downtown LA trying to buy souveniers. Granted, this was better than his previous job as an LAPD cop. The only downside was that the crooks and murderers he chased after where generaly around 160 feet tall and more often than not fired some kind of energy projectile from their eyes or mouth.
Suddently his train of thought was broken by the sound of static coming from the radio. This could only mean 1 thing: A monster, or a hoax. Dick was hoping for the latter. Suddently a voice spoke out through the choppy radio signal. Dick could barely understand a damn thing the guy was saying, so he tried adjusting the frequency. At last, the voice came through crystal clear.
"This is the Highwave Fishing Company contacting the GMCD headquarters, come in! This is an urgent emergency broadcast!"
Dick rolled his eyes and picked up the mouthpeice and pressed down the talk button.
"This is GMDC headquarters, please describe your emergency with as much detail as possible"
Dick answered back, not bothering to sound like he actually gave a damn that someplace was under seige by a monster.
"There is a large eel or snake of some kind attacking the warehouse, it's going after all the fish we have in cold storage. Send help!"
The voice on the other side replied.
Dick looked over at Tracy and hollered
"Hey Bates get chief on the line, we got a monster attacking the fishery down by the harbor" he said.
Without a word, Bates dialed the Chief's number on the office phone and laid down all the information for the chief. Dick could hear the chief's distinctive bellow through the mouthpeice of the phone. Dick could already picture the chief in his office, surrounded by books, coffee mugs, and mountains of paperwork yelling over the phone until his face turned blue.
Highwave Fisheries Company
Los Angeles, California, 8:20 PM Pacific Time
Workers ran in terror as the creature that attacked not even 20 minutes ago snaked its way through the asphault towards the cold storage warehouse. Lester Mays was among those fleeing the scene when he stopped to gaze apon the sea-beast. Looking back, he could see the massive eel-like creature attempting to fit it's head through the large, broken window on the western side of the building. Lester couldnt make out exactly how big the creature was, since the rest of it was submerged in water. From what he could see however, the creature was about 50 meters in length, and about 10 meters wide. The skin was a flat grey and perfectly smooth, even slimy looking. It's eyes where near the top of it's head and where saucer shaped. The pupil was interesting in the fact that it was a semicircle with two lines extending outwards from the top, unlike any fish Lester had ever seen before.
The creature's throat expanded and it made a series of croaks that sounded almost like drumming. That noise was enough to send Lester running for his life among the crowd. The creature finally succeeded in breaching the factory and began gorging itself on the fish. As the creature did so, military scout choppers flew overhead and recorded every single detail of the incident as it unfolded and reported it back to the GMCD headquarters who where in the process of mobilizing their special forces division. The creature was far to busy feeding to notice these metal insects buzzing around it. The creature gradually began to feel uncomfortable and found it increasingly harder to breathe. It could feel it's skin begin to dry because of the cold night air.
Suddently a massive gust of wind swept the creature's body to the side and put it's head in a very uncomfortable position. The creature began to thrash about, causing the entire half of the building it was stuck in to begin crack and weaken. An ear splitting screech echoed through the night which made the creature nervous. Suddently a shockwave shook the area, signaling the arrival of something lassive that had just landed a short distance away.
Meanwhile at the GMCD headquarters, Dick Mason had been monitoring the entire situation from his office when he saw the newcomer arrive. All he needed to identify the newcomer was the familiar quadrupal, hunched over posture and the distinctive 3 pronged crest. The scout choppers overhead shone their search lights apon the newcomer to reveal the grey-skilled pterosaur on the ground on all fours.
"Ah shit, it's Pteradactylus" Dick cursed under his breath. Dick knew that when Pteradactylus showed up it was either to eat the attacking monster, or drive it out of what the pterosaur considered "his" territory..or both. Regardless, Dick was somewhat excited to see how the battle would go down. Generally Pteradactylus saved Dick the trouble of having to make a million phonecalls to 7 diffrent Army officials and egg them on to send anything they've got to shell the damn things to death and instead just kicked the other monster's ass, take a few nibbles here and there, then leave. The downside was, that it was one more monster to deal with.
Back at the warehouse, Pteradactylus took a few seconds to observe his helpless prey who was stuck inside the building and it's struggling only helped lodge it in the window even further as the rebar and sharp peices of concrete prevented it from pulling itself out. Pteradactylus slowly moved closer, watching out for any potential suddent moves by his prey. As far as he could tell however, this succulent morsel wasnt going anywhere. The creature was now in complete distress. It's throat pouch expanded and it began producing the drum-like croaks again in a vain attempt to scare off this potential attacker. Potential was not the proper word to use howver, as Pteradactylus knew EXACTLY what he was here to do. He was here to eat his fill.
Wasting no more time simply staring at it, Pteradactylus cumbersomly waddled over and bit down on the creature's neck, attempting to go for an instant kill so he could feast sooner. Pteradactylus's sharp teeth easly cut through the creature's slimy tissues and sliced into several veins and arteries in the creature, causing it to hemmorage. The creature began to thrash about wildly as the croaking noises it produces sounded more frantic and paniced. In response, Pteradactylus bit down harder and pulled, intent on tearing out the creature's throat. The wall the creature was stuck in finally gave way and it broke free at last. However it broke free too late. The creature thrashed about more violently, intent on freeing itself from the attacker despite already close to death from immense blood loss.
Pteradactylus replied by simply cocking it's head to the right and was rewarded with a satisfying crack created by the snapping of the creature's neck. The animal's body immediatly went limp. Pteradactylus craned his kill over the building and plopped it onto the ground and began tearing into the creature's body, pulling out large slabs of meat. His keen hearing allowed him to hear incoming military forces in the form of the Daddy-O super tank and fighter planes. Pteradactylus thought nothing of these lesser beings, as he had dealt with them before and knew that their puny "fire-makers" could not damage him. Pteradactylus had no desire to stay in this human polluted place and decided to take some of his kill with him. He used his claws to slice the creature's head off and used his prehensile feet to carry the severed head off into the skies.
Colonel Max Johnson was among the GMCD special forces dispatched to the area. He had watched the grisly feast from the safety of his jeep. He hopped out of his vehicle and walked towards the headless carcass of the eel creature which had hours ago had attempted to feed, and then found itself as food for something bigger. The colonel took his hat off and turned towards his men.
"Get me GMCD on the line......" he barked.
"I wanna find out how this damn thing got here without us knowing..."
