Godzilla's Arch-Nemesis

Postby JVM » Sun Jul 25, 2010 11:40 pm

A lot of Godzilla's classic enemies have been called his arch-nemesis, even at times, his allies. Who in your opinion is the King's arch-nemesis?

Oh god, here we go again.

Okay, I'm going to say as little as possible to prevent another pointless argument from breaking out...

...I think Godzilla's arch-nemesis is MechaGodzilla. That's all.

It depends.

I want to say King Ghidorah. But really? Godzilla's arch-nemesis is and always will be Man.

Both MechaGodzilla AND King Ghidorah (some characters are allowed to have two arch-nemesis). END.

Either KG or MechaGodzilla since their his most popular foes, and have been in over four films.

I must agree. Mankind is the menace of Godzilla in general. But if I had to pick a monster, it would need to be King Ghidorah.

King Ghidorah is Godzilla's arch nemesis. No contest. There's even a line that says he's Godzilla's greatest foe in the Japanese trailer of Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah.

King Ghidorah. Mechagodzilla and Mothra may be popular, but Mothra has also ended up an ally and Mechagodzilla has twice just been an agent of the military. While King Ghidorah has been an agent of aliens, that's not quite the same as just being another weapon to fight Godzilla with. In addition, KG was the first major foe Godzilla faced, and has repeatedly been positioned in the "ultimate villain" role, esp. in DAM and GFW. He was the top dog of the guardian monsters in GMK, and was the go-to kaiju when the Heisei series needed to make money. The films make it pretty clear that this is the kaiju Godzilla is supposed to be fighting.

King Ghidorah is Godzilla arch-nemesis. Why? Because I could see Godzilla teaming up with both Mothra (as he has before) or Mechagodzilla out of necessity, but I can't say the same for Ghidorah. The King of Terror should always oppose the King of the Monsters, and that what makes him Godzilla's arch-nemesis.

If we count Godzilla Island, Godzilla already has teamed up with Mechagodzilla too.

The same can't be said for him and King Ghidorah, which is why I give the latter his Arch-Nemesis spot, even if their conflict never seemed like a rivalry ala Batman and the Joker.

Either Space Godzilla or Mechagodzilla

They can match if not surprass the King of monsters power in every way, making them easily the deadliest foes Godzilla can face.

SpaceGodzilla has the malice approach, as he went after Little Godzilla. However, if we are going to count a one-movie-timer, you will have a better defense for Destoroyah, since he actually killed Godzilla Junior and his origin runs deep with the Godzilla line.

Still, I don't think any monster who only showed up in a single film could compare with what Godzilla has against either King Ghidorah or Mechagodzilla.
