Godzilla's Revenge Custom Project

Everybody loves the 1969 classic, Godzilla's Revenge :P well I do anyways..

Say Godzilla's Revenge was released in 1980 to bring in some extra cash to Toho, which Stock Footage battles would you have inserted into the film?

I would splice in the first battle with Mechagodzilla first, then have that lead into the battle with Ebirah. From there he would battle Ghidorah and then Titanosaurus and maybe Kumunga or Megalon and finally his battle with Gabara at the end

I think its good as it is...seriously. Plus having Gabara as the final villain, after already 'beating' Ghidorah and MechaG is ridiculous. And I love Gabara, but still,he's a weakling.

I'd replace Ebirah with Titanosaurus. It's the only change I'd make.

I like to imagine an alternate movie where Ichiro dreamt of a Monster Island not made up of 85% stock footage. There was one tease in particular where we hear two monster roars (might have been Manda and Anguris) and as a kid watching it for the first time, I got excited thinking they were going to cut to some kind of fight or action between them and... nothing. Horseshit stock footage. The irony being they made this movie for kids trying to pass it off and children are the ones most aware that they are being fed the same meal twice.

Considering that Sea Monster and Son are fairly weak entries, I'd say the meal is easier to swallow the second time around.

If Toho went the Super Monster Gamera route, about the only thing I would want to see them do is include the Godzilla vs. Manda footage from Destroy All Monsters and the Godzilla vs. Gigan fight from Zone Fighter, so at least viewers would get something they are less likely to have seen before.... still can't imagine the resulting film would be good, though.

As a kid, I enjoyed watching Son of Godzilla far more than All Monsters Attack.

As an adult, that hasn't changed.

I agree with you there. SOG had a better plot.

As for Godzilla vs Manda, I'm glad that wasn't included. The giant condor attack was more dynamic than the meeting of Godzilla and Manda.

Are you kidding?! Those are two of the best films in the entire franchise!

Anyway, I think the main problem with the film was the writing, not the stock footage. Things happen fairly randomly on Monster Island. With that in mind, using scenes from the 70's films would have been even more out of place. I think the stock footage they did use was probably their best choice.

It all depends on your preferences. I personally have nothing against them, but remember that GvTSM was one of two Godzilla films bashed by MST3K.

So... that shows that preferences in film making varies widely. Some may see GvTSM as one of the best, while others deem it bad enough to fit into a MST3K episode. That was the point I intended anyway.

The MST3K guys are huge Godzilla fans.

But lets face it, even the best Godzilla movies are ripe for a good ribbing. You could take GMK and tear the living shit out of it if you really wanted to.

Sea Monster and Megalon were simply chosen because it was believed they were in public domain.

I kinda agree. They're both very shallow, though punctuated by amusing monster set pieces. Godzilla's Revenge features such moments, plus an actually compelling story.
Every film should have at least one animal attack.
