Toho lawsuit affecting LP Godzilla?

Postby gatorzilla » Mon Dec 19, 2011 10:36 pm

Is the lawsuit with Toho studios/Honda family having an affect on the new American Godzilla and thats why it is moving at a snails pace?

Probably still working out the character's an the dialog an making sure Godzilla is represented as a force of nature instead of just an over-grown lizard. That's what were hoping is causing the slow pace of the films production.

I doubt it's the lawsuit tho to be honest.

It could be hurting it at this point, but as we all know it was moving slower than molasses in January well before any lawsuit had turned up. Even if it's hurting it I don't think it will affect much of anything including its theatrical release.

If I had to guess I would say no, but it probably is present on the production team's minds. If Honda wins however it could spell disaster for the film like what happened to The Spectacular Spider-Man series. A switch of the owner caused it to die.

Movies have taken ALOT longer to get even HALF the information that GODZILLA has.

Spider-man started development in the 80s.

Godzilla (98) started early 90s.

This is nothing.

And I belive an article discussing the case said that it wouldn't effect the LP film.

Those are outliers on the extremely lengthy side.

On the other side of things, for example, The Dark Knight Rises trailer is already out 6 or 7 months ahead of the proposed release date. There's no information out about LP Godzilla because there's no information to be had apart from a young director and a couple of writers. If they're going to really put the movie out in 2012, there's going to be a wealth of information coming out soon whether by leaks or studio announcements, but I don't expect it to happen.

Maybe the movie is moving at a snails pace due to Legendary Pictures waiting for approval from Toho since everything must need approval from Toho.

It still does. Just depends on the script. TF1's first draft came in in Feb of 05. It sucked.

If the implication is that the final draft didn't suck compared to the first, I hope I never encounter it.
