How has Godzilla impacted your life?

For discussions covering more than one Toho film or show that span across more than one “era.”

Long story short? I've spent thousands of dollars on toys, posters, and movies...have a Godzilla and a MechaGodzilla tattoo (And have several more planned), have Godzilla's face on my ring gear (I'm a pro wrestler) and showed a Godzilla movie at my wedding.

Well, I'm not sure where to start. It did get me interested in foreign films and the country of Japan in general.

But now that I think about it, it has influenced me in two major ways.

First, writing. When I got my first Godzilla figures, I was creating story lines that I expanded on for years. I used a little of that story line for two writing assignments in my Modern Fantasy class in high school. I then wrote my CSI: Miami/Godzilla crossover, which really got me into writing out the stories I come up with. And I also wrote a few reviews for the site. Of course it led to me writing my pride and joy, JLA: War of the Kaiju, which in turn got me writing a series, starting with its sequel, Justice League of America: Planet Kaiju. I can also thank Godzilla for getting me into DC Comics because of WOTK.

Second, spending time with my Dad. I have grown to appreciate this more since he passed away. For years when I first got into Godzilla, he watched every single one after I got them. The later ones we often didn't have time to watch the whole thing but he would sit in on them when I was watching them on TV. This is the reason that Final Wars holds a special place for me because it was the first one we sat down to watch in years and it was a blast to watch with him. I'll always treasure that.
I was mentioned in the SciFi Japan article about the appearence of extras on the Godzilla vs. Megalon DVD.

Certainly, lemme know whatcha think:

right arm:

Eventually both arms will be sleeved-up with monsters, most of which will be kaiju. Also have an epic back piece planned for when I get in better physical (and financial!) shape which will include Godzilla, Mothra, Ghidorah, Rodan, Anguirus, Gorosaurus, Minya, MechaGodzilla, Gigan, Jet Jaguar, King Seesar, and Baragon. Might add Kumonga in too, who knows...

Wrestling pants: (I am "Heatseeker" Johnny Danger, will be debuting as such with Atlanta-based Platinum Championship Wrestling on what is looking like Jan 13th)

I am out of my mind with pure respect and aduration for those tattoos and ring gear; seriously that Mecha G one is so inovative, I never would have thought of that!! I'm really taken a back by it all, and that future back piece sounds amazing!! I bow to you, oh master!! Utter respect...

It helped me think out of the box, it also led to my 1st romantic relationship in an indirect way. And earned me the ROTC nickname Godzilla.

We were @ Disney world on a school trip. At Epoct, I saw a Godzilla. Shirt in a store in the Japan section. I told my buddy and he forgot. So when I had paid for it ar the counter, I looked around and my group was gone. I stepped outside and she ranup to me saying they'd been looking for me. I explained what I had happened and she thought my love of Godzilla was somehow endearing. So we walked back to our group, talking the whole way, and she occasionally asked me about something pertaining to Godzilla. A week later was our 1stdate.

He's really impacted my focus in writing. For three years, it was strictly King Caesar vs a whole bunch of monsters (including Ultraman and Hedorah...he won. Of course.). Honestly, outside of writing, Godzilla hasn't done much other than show how peculiar my interests in media is. I'm a skreeonk odd bird when I really look at myself in the mirror.

And it happened by falling into a volcano. So don't watch it, you'll be scared for years.

Growing up with these movies gave me interest in science-fiction, and thus opened up many more doors along the way. They also taught me that movies don't always have to be pristine quality to be enjoyable.

In long term, Godzilla has treated me well, but starting off was a little rocky. At the time (I was 8), the only thing I ever talked about in school was Godzilla, and it resulted in some social consequences. No one would really hang out with me, and I was stamped as a nerd among my classmates. My obsession also drived my cousins and probably parents crazy. Now, after that obsession has decreased over time, its a part of me that I have kept over the years that has not just entertained me, but become a vital part of my personality. It has influenced me into learning Japanese, getting into other kaiju media, and helped me to appreciate science-fiction. My purchasing of figures, however, did leave me with a dent in my wallet for a while.

My interest in Godzilla has also showed in my hobby. I've made several kaiju from lego, ranging from Toho to Ultraman monsters.
