WHAT IF:Destroy all monsters was really the LAST movie?

Do you think that toho would eventually start the Heisei series many years later or do you think toho would forget about godzilla(which is impossible) and do other giant monster related movies.

If DAM was the last Godzilla movie, then we wouldnt have any other movies after 1968.

It's all good. I make such mistakes myself.

Edit: Misunderstood the question. With that in mind, yes I think Toho would still have come back to Godzilla movies.

Godzilla would be nowhere as popular as it is today and would likely be a forgotten series. I'm happy how the series is today.

It DAM was, it's very likely Toho would have started new Godzilla films later. Though, the Godzilla series wouldn't have lasted as long as it has. I think interest would have waned, and the films wouldn't have done as well.

Also all the hotties that were in the later films (Akane, Miki and Yuri) would not come to be.

No Terror of MechaGodzilla (and, as a result, no Titanosaurus). No Godzilla 1985. Those two films shaped my love of the franchise as a child. As a result I probably wouldn't be as big of a fan. Scratch that... I definitely wouldn't be as big a fan.

You took the words right out of my mouth. Godzilla 1985's constant television broadcasts when I was young were the primary reason I got into the franchise in the first place, and Terror remains among my favorites as well.

It probably would've been a lot better in the long run.

This. Akane was frankly what made GxMG just that much better to me. And Rei Kikukawa is pretty much the only reason I still occasionally watch GFW.

The Showa series would've gone out with a bang rather than a whimper.

Well...that would've sucked, frankly. We would've missed out on some of the most famous and iconic movies and monsters. No Hedorah, no Megalon, no Gigan, no Mechagodzilla...the franchise would be pretty dull and likely forgotten, I'd guess. All that campy '70s stuff is a big part of what most people remember about Godzilla.

King Kong vs. Godzilla to Destroy All Monsters is such a great uninterrupted satisfying sequence of films, effectively the best of the whole franchise, but if they stopped we wouldn't have gotten such great oddities like All Monsters Attack or Smog Monsters or great iconic creations like the Blackhole Aliens, or Hedorah, Gigan, or Mechagodzilla.

I think a reboot of Godzilla would have been inevitable, so that's not that big of a concern for him in the hypothetical scenario of RoG not happening.

^ ...So, basically, all that would probably change in Godzilla's history is that we don't get the 70's films... Which would stink...

Yeah. And that's unfortunate for me on a personal level as a few of my favorite Showa films are from the 70s as well, Hedorah and both of the Mechagodzilla entrees.
