Superman was directed by Richard Donner. The last I remember him going off the Spielberg/Lucas reservation was back in 2000, for the Roland Emmerich directed, Mel Gibson starring vehicle, The Patriot. The score ended up getting noiminated for an Oscar the next year.

So basically him doing music for someone other than Spielberg or Lucas is uncommon but not unheard of.

I love Hans Zimmers music ( The Thin Red Line is the best!) so I would love to see him compose it.

If not him then Marco Beltrami would also be great for it.

I just saw Sherlock Holmes 2, which he scored. The music was odd but interesting. I don't know if that's his usual style though.

Michael Giacchino; Just listen to his epic piece for Cloverfield and you'll understand that he "gets" how a monster movie should sound. It's fantastic. Not to mention his rescoring of the classic Star Trek theme is also stellar.

Henry Price Jackman; Composer of X-Men: First Class. Amazing score and easily my favorite of the year, but he also did the score for Monsters vs. Aliens which is pretty notable when looking for new Godzilla composers.

Honestly, I find Hans Zimmer to be a bit dry at times. His music doesn't have alot of character or sticks out to me as being particularly interesting. It works and he compliments the film well enough, but I never remember it. But something like Roar! or Nero's theme from Star Trek or Magneto's theme from XM: FC stay with me.

^ I loved the new Trek theme. Giacchino was by far the best aspect of the movie (IMHO).

I would like to hear some choir when G fights the villain. As I've said before, the iconic theme should play during the end credits, that would be perfect.

I'd kind of like to hear a new version of some of the other Ifukube themes from the original Godzilla. My favorite piece in the series is actually "Godzilla at the Ocean Floor", and I'd be overjoyed to hear it played in a new entry.

Unless they have an oxygen destroyer kill Godzilla in the film.

This movie should open with "Crime Fiction" and end with the Jet Jaguar song.

I've heard plenty of songs not done by Ifukube that worked just as well in later Godzilla films, but that does not mean I'm willing to give Hollywood the benefit of the doubt. Best case scenario, we end up with a musical reinterpretation of Godzilla that works, like John Barry's themes from King Kong 1976. It probably won't happen though. Heck, Danny Elfman did the memorable score from the Spider-Man animated series back in the '90's, and then made the totally bland and shapesless themes of the first Spider-Man films.

I say play the original themes, both Ifukube's and others at parts of the film that would merit it. Like in the climactic battle with Destroyah, when the music flares up as Destroya's blood flies. I equate that to the scenes where Rocky and Apollo Creed were seemingly battling to the death in Rocky2 and variations of rocky's theme were belted out in ominous and tragic sounding renditions. The music simply adds meaning to the action, and it would be a mistake not to use such powerful music at the right moment in a big budget film. The alternatives would probably be like the nondescript music from Bayformers, which was fitting for a movie that barely resembled the source material at times. Or crappy knock off music, like what they had in Robocop2, which was a pale imitation to the late great Basil Poledouris' score for the original Robocop.

The original music feels too right not to have it in a Hollywood adaptation.

In fact, if the movie turns out to be a total Transformers '07 clone, I'll be happy if the signature music is not in it anywhere. All the better to distinguish it from the rest of the Godzilla franchise.

Of course it should have Godzilla's theme!

Just imagine how much more terrible GINO would have been if it actually had Godzilla's original themes in it.

Or if Godzilla looked like Godzilla. The design wasn't the main problem with the movie that's for sure.

I honestly think GINO's score was fantastic. throwing in the Ifukube theme would have felt just a bit cheap, David Arnold's music is easily the best thing about the movie.

It's a great score. In fact the opening credits make it seem like it's a real Godzilla movie. Kinda like Godzilla Final Wars with the TohoScope logo.
