Soundtrack Speculation (Composer, Songs, Godzilla Theme)

For the discussion of the upcoming Godzilla film by Legendary Pictures.

Re: Should the movie have Godzilla's theme song?

If it's used to good effect, yes. A large problem with its use in the later films, is how the orchestration noticeable differs from the remainder of the score. GMK in particular, suffers from this. Though I like the part in Godzilla Final Wars, where the vintage theme starts playing over the Tohoscope logo. It's almost like you're about to watch a different film. Then everything goes to hell.

The best place to put it in a future film (be it Toho's or Legendary's) would be when Godzilla does something that defines his character.

Not really, considering Williams scored the prequels himself. Fans mostly agree his music is the best aspect of that trilogy.

I was going to continue trolling you guys with the theme stuff, but I've totally forgotten the path I was taking with this.

Either way, don't use Ifukube. Please.

Use Ifukube. Please.

Maybe a Remake of Ifukube's Godzilla March in the Showdown & Credits. I mean a modern Remake from the new composer, not old 1993 Ifukube stock material.

Agreed
The dead animals in KOM are a result of high powered signals sent from aliens,to awaken the dormant monsters. Animals with similar senses are overloaded from the signal &drop dead. That way much of the world will be destroyed in prep for the invasion.

I don't want to see any Ifukube music in the film itself, though I'd be open to seeing the classic G theme play for the credits. ONLY if it actually fits, and if the movie is respectful enough to warrant it, though. I don't want to see it thrown pointlessly into the movie just for the sake of being there.

Prove it.

My text ringtone is his roar, arguably just as iconic. Yet, people ask me, "Is that people screaming?" or "is that a T. rex?"

So, if they can't recognize his roar, I don't think they can recognize his theme.

As long as the movie is entertaining and has a Godzilla that actually looks and behaves like the real deal, I'll be fine. I don't watch Godzilla movies to hear Ifukube music. Sure, in a few of the films the music really adds something to the atmosphere of the movie, but for the most part, I don't care. If anything it gets old. I don't want the same stale track in every goddamn Godzilla movie. I don't want the film to be gushing with fanservice. I want some real effort to be put forth to make some new scores. This movie should NOT try to be like another Toho movie. It should strive to be the best it can be on its own merits. Respect the character of Godzilla, that's all they need to do as far as keeping fans happy.

If Godzilla's roar is so unrecognizable it shouldn't be in the movie either.

Fun fact: THe original Godzilla roar wasn't used in the American movie either. I believe they didn't have the rights for it.

Here's how things go, Tyler. I'm gonna break it down for you so you're idiotic trolling can stop:

There has not been a Godzilla movie (sans the American) that is lacking his roar.

There have been Godzilla movies that have not used Ifukube's theme. And the music in those films may be superior than Ifukube's track.

Now, I'm siding with Mike for once. I think using Ifukube's theme is insulting. Insulting to Godzilla's character, his series, Ifukube, and the filmmakers themselves.

So, nyah. skreeonk off.

Hans Zimmer, Marco Beltrami, or John Williams. Or, if they're interested in collaborating with Japanese composers, I would say either Michiru Oshima or Kenji Kawai to compose an ost.

John Williams: For obvious reasons.
Hans Zimmer: Again, obvious reasons.
Kow Otani: Hey, I like the GMK and the Gamera trilogy sound tracks.
Patrick Doyle: Can't you just imagine this in a kaiju flick? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9974PHElCxA
David Arnold: The music was one of the few good things about the American G film.

Though highly improbable, I would like some Italian composers to work on this. Like:

Stelvio Cipriani
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9G3aL_oLCs

Riz Ortolani
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL9bw_a5qnw

Or even Fabio Frizzi

Yeah, that's how you score a film.
