The issue I have with Godzilla's theme isn't that they just pop up from the void. It is that they aren't expanded upon.

Godzilla's theme has become fixed in the series. Its an easy, recognizable theme.

If you play Pokemon, you'll notice that there is a central, underlying theme to a lot of their main themes and battle music. I've noticed that its just a few notes, but its there. If they were to do that with Godzilla, I wouldn't mind.

Lets go back to the baroque and classic and jazz: experiment a little and just cut loose.

I disagree. If I were to be a famous musician, I would LOVE for others to use my music well after my death. It carries on the mans legacy.

are we just supposed to forget the man and his talents because he died? I would MUCH rather see/hear his art used for film now, because I see it as a sign of respect.

How in the world would that be an insult? Unless he had alluded to that prior to his death, that statement goes directly against social convention. Traditionally people love their work to be remembered so dearly, and many franchises use the same theme over and over. That's part of holding them together.

Its not so much an insult to Ifukube but an insult to the film, the filmmakers, and the fans themselves.

Strange, I don't feel insulted when I hear his themes. Maybe I'm just not listening to the gangsta version, Big G in da hood.

Well, the fact that we're willing to rollover and accept the same thing over and over again...well, that just shows we're kinda derp.

before I say anything... you know I love you Nick, but...

are fans of the Simpsons or Family Guy derp because they use the same theme song every season?

It's Godzilla's theme song for god sake. I could understand if it was some song that was only used in one film. But Godzilla's skreeonk theme song for crying out loud. You would expect it to be heard in several of his own films.

Is it an insult to John Williams because the Star Wars theme is in every Star Wars film?

I swear, some people act like the Godzilla series are a sacred form of film that is completely different from every other film out there...

I think this is the point that we're trying to make;

If you play Pokemon, you'll notice that there is a central, underlying theme to a lot of their main themes and battle music. I've noticed that its just a few notes, but its there. If they were to do that with Godzilla, I wouldn't mind.

Make the Godzilla theme something special, not just a piece of cheap fan service.

I enjoy the slightly faster tempo and the different ending that the KKvsG variation has, I love how relentless and huge it sounds in Mothra vs. Godzilla. But Toho has had a "stock" version that's been thrown around and not only is it flat, but it's just gotten repetitive.

The fans are insulted at the Godzilla theme being used in almost every one of the 28 Toho films? I guess I learn something new every day.

I wouldn't mind hearing a version done with electric Guitars and such.

I think it's kind of obvious the composer would do his or her own version of the theme if it is used. Michael Giacchino did it with Star Trek. The movie had its own sound, but at the end they brought in the classic theme and it was made to blend in with the rest while remaining true to the original.

I think it was used a bit too much in Mothra vs Godzilla. The KKvsG version has a nice prototype feel.

Exactly what I'm talking about. I thought the new score was the best thing about Star Trek, but that doesn't mean I didn't want a taste of the classic music in there. LP can do the same damn thing, though I'd prefer that the G-theme crop up during the actual climax, rather than the credits.

The film will have an original score, if the theme plays during it, it won't feel "different" if you know what I mean. However, it should definitely play during the end credits, perfect closure.

It a relatively simple idea: Godzilla is not know for his music. People don't know his theme when you play it. You pull a strange off the street, the majority of the time, they know Vader's theme.

Godzilla is not musically known. He is comically known. Unfortunately so. But that is the truth.

It would be nice if they have the Blue Öyster Cult "Godzilla" song played at the end of the credits but I think it's unlikely. It would nice to have though.

You want to hear the song? Find a copy of it and listen to it on your CD player or through your computer. It's an old song that tends to be associated with the campy aspects of Godzilla. It would sound terrible if it was used in this film if the tone of the thing doesn't warrant it, which I doubt it will.

And the reason why I feel the continuous use of the Ifukube music is insulting is because of the lazy way Toho would use it in almost every film of the past 25 years that wasn't scored by the man. Oh, Godzilla popped out of the water, time to use a stock track from 1993! There's no creativity to the way Toho used those themes in later movies and as Oshima's MG scores proved, it's possible to have a terrific score without resorting to decade-plus old music tracks composed by someone else entirely.
