Which Cerasini book is the best?

Postby zilla103192 » Wed Dec 07, 2011 8:06 am

Okay, ordering christmas presents on Amazon, I got everything I need and still have enough to buy a cheap book. I was looking at the Cerasini Godzilla books.

Which one is the best of them all?

I will be leaving for a bit, and when I return, I DEMAND AN ANSWER!!!!!

I prefer the first - Godzilla Returns

But they all pale compare to:

I like Returns a lot as well. I love the way Cerasini incorporates the Steve Martin material from the original film into what is essentially his own version of Godzilla '84.

If you haven't read them at all I say get Returns as well.

But this is how I rank them
Godzilla 2000
Godzilla Returns
Godzilla vs. the Robot Monsters
Godzilla at World's End

Get Godzilla Returns. The series has enough characters carried over from title to title that it's worth reading them in order.

I'm not sure which I enjoyed the most. In general, all are the type of tone I would love to see replicated in a Godzilla film.

Godzilla Returns is probably one of the hardest hitting of the series, and for some reason really captured me as a younger reader. There's a brutality to Godzilla that's never really been seen in modern versions of the character there.

Godzilla 2000 has its moments, but for some reason to me is the least memorable. Sequences involving Kamakuri stick out the most.

Godzilla At World's End is arguably the worst of the four, but it is by no means terrible. At times it can be quiet a bit of fun. There's just too much going on.

I really like Godzilla vs. The Robot Monsters. The title is absolutely awful, but the entire book feels very visceral and exciting. The monster battles are intense, and pack a punch that most in the franchise in general lack. I also love the use of Baragon and Angurius.

I enjoyed Robot Monsters the most out of all of them.

Robot Monsters is the only one I'm missing aside from the kiddie books. Godzilla 2000 is one I liked cause of all the monsters in it. World's End is also good.

I don't have Robot Monsters yet because I couldn't find it for under thirty dollars for a long time. Out of the other three, I liked Godzilla Returns the best. I liked the others, but there was just too much going on.

Way back when, I found Robot Monsters in a Half-Price Books, just sitting on the shelf...it cost me, like, $2.50. I read it that night and went out and actually managed to find Returns and 2000 at another HPB the next day. I found World's End a couple of weeks later, so I got pretty damn lucky.

Maybe it was because of the order I read them in, but Robot Monsters is the one I think of the most. The monster battles in this one top-notch and probably the most fun considering you get to see some more obscure kaiju and match-ups. Baragon's attack and Mech-Godzilla's subsequent fight against it were really well done and the Anguirus/Gigan fight in Russia sticks out as pretty awesome.

^Ah. It's been about 10 years since I read them, so I'm sure I'm a little fuzzy on the details.

Like I said, it's not so much about the storytelling or the plotting; it's the "moments" that make these books worth a read and memorable.

Yeah, but G: AWE featured a rematch where ANGY WON! And considering Gigan was one of the most powerful kaiju in the book that's quite a feat.
