WHY DO YOU LIKE THE SHOWA MONSTERS YOU LIKE?

As Ookondoru stated, and as I stated before, I like a lot of the Showa monsters for their simplicity. Even the super-powered kaiju like Ghidorah, Hedorah, and MechaGodzilla had a rather simple concept & design.

I like monsters -specially in Showa- because of their background and their design. I loved the fact they went for a protector with King Ceasar, and I also love Mothra because she brings a level of paranormality that blends well enough with sci-fi. When you have a film with Mothra you have enough story elements to make it a film "about Mothra" and not just a "film with Mothra", this is something I like about kaiju in general.

I also like their personality, for example, the fact that Anguirus comes as steadyfast and courageous, or that King Ghidorah is a cruel bastard. I think that when actions speak by themselves it makes the kaiju a lot more interesting. Obviously, they need a minimum of screen time for this to happen.

Finally, I have a soft spot for c-listers and obscure characters.

Favorite to least favorite:

Godzilla 64 - Particularly the Mothra vs. Godzilla version. My favorite Showa suit (with G68 and G54 close behind), looks awesome and Nakajima's performance is great. Plus it's the best G-film IMO with some of my favorite scenes so that doesn't hurt..

Godzilla 68 - Another amazing suit with a lot of money shots in DAM. It's hero Godzilla, but we get to see him blow up some convincing miniatures as well before the final fight.

Anguirus 68 - such a well constructed suit, and of course the definitive Anguirus design.

Rodan 56 - Reigns terror, looks awesome. I like Rodan 64/65/68 almost as much.

King Ghidorah 68 - Less of a "spastic pyscho" than the mid-sixties version, with more strategy and fluidity. MZ version comes close..

Gorosaurus 68 - the kaiju most similar to Godzilla, yet still far different in appearance and the way he fights. Dinosaur kaiju FTW.

Varan - Cool monster, lackluster execution. I would love to see this guy get treated properly in a Godzilla film someday.

Gigan 62 - it's skreeonk Gigan, what else is there to be said?

Mechagodzilla 74 - As much as I like Kiryu's design and combat, I gotta give the best MG award to Mechagodzilla II. He skreeonk shit up, son!

for me,easily the Dino kaiju(Anguirus,Gorosaurus,Baragon,Varan,Rodan,Titanosaurus) and Manda.Mainly because their designs and personalities(even if Varan and Manda dont have much to judge in that category)are pretty likable and because they have potential for more than what they were given,but had chances taken away from them*cough*Godzilla X Varan, Baragon and Anguirus: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack*cough*
My only complaint w/ Manda is that if he's the god of Mu,dontcha think he should have some sort of power besides constriction?

Naw,i was thinking something like bio-electricity,not unlike an elecric eel,just a little more manipulative.so not just electric shockwaves, but like an electric bite and as a last-resort a focused beam of electricity.
