2011 Year In Review

Postby gvamp » Wed Dec 07, 2011 10:44 pm

Since the year is almost over and no more major games are coming out I figured I'd create this topic.

This year saw major releases and I must say it's been a good year for gaming; we haven't had one this good since 2008 IMHO.

We got some conclusions to major trilogies including Uncharted, Resistance, Modern Warfare, Battlefield to name a few. Saw the release of some new hardware (3DS) and the annoucemnt of new hardware (Wii U).

What where/are your favorite games of the year?

My favorite is Skyrim without a doubt. I still need to play some other major games like Batman: AC, Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Sonic Generations, Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and some of the new 3DS games. I also enjoy Mortal Kombat (MK9), Rage and Duke Nukem Forever. I personally did not buy a whole lot of new games this year.

I did, I must have spent $600 easily on games, accessories and other video game related stuff maybe even closer to a $1000.

I didn't spend much even though many good fighters came out like Blazblue and King of Fighters XIII.

My favorite game is Skyrim. That's not just favorite game of the year, but favorite game ever. However, I still haven't had the chance to play Sonic Generations and Skyward Sword, so I'll see where those take me once I get them.

Amazing year for gaming, my personal favorites being Portal 2, Skyrim and Skyward Sword. October and November alone made this year worth it for gaming. I did spend a bit on games though, not too much, but I did end up having to buy a whole new Wii system.

Yeah Crysis 2 came out in March. I forgot Pokemon White/Black came out this year as well as Dragon Age II.

The first part of the year there was a steady stream of games coming out, the middle end part of the year nothing good really came out then once September hit there was at least one AAA title out every week, if not every week then with in two weeks you'd have an AAA title out. Now it's pretty much dried up again.

Well technically Black & White version is a 2010 game. I also bought some older games this year but I don't count them since Left 4 Dead 2 and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor came out in 2009.

I think I will put down my top 10 best games of 2011 after Christmas since I plan to pick up Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Sonic Generations after Christmas.

Have yet to play many of the big releases. I have played Portal 2, LA Noire, and Dragon Age 2. All three are fun games, but all have flaws that keep them from being memorable to me. Portal 2 really felt like it tried too hard to top the original. LA Noire struggled with repetition and a protagonist that flipped from being bland to dislike-able. And Dragon Age 2 had repetitious design and rather outdated graphics.

All three are fun, but I haven't played GOW3, Skyrim, Skyward Sword, or Uncharted 3 yet.

I'm no gamer. The only other big game I played was some of Modern Warfare 3.

So, of course, my number one favorite game would be Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure. Very fun gameplay, awesome designs for the fantastic critters and environments, cool figure gimmick, and my little cousins/nephews can use the figures for their own little board/chess games. Genius, imo.

It's been a great year in the gaming world. Modern Warfare, Battlefield, Batman Arkham City, and Sonic are just a few of the best games I have played this year. Definitely satisfied and holing that they can really blow stuff out of the water next year.

Let's see:

MineCraft
Skyward Sword
Battlefield 3
Skyrim
Crysis 2
Star Wars: The Old Republic
Portal 2
Orcs Must Die (the funnest little game I have played in a long time)

Yeah, I would say it was a good year for gaming.

GREAT gaming year.

My list of what I've played:

Favorite of the year: Super Mario 3D Land
Runners up:
Modern Warfare 3
Pokemon White
MOON BASE ALPHA

Massive Disappointments:
Battlefield 3 for consoles. awful!

Haven't played Mario Kart 7 or Skyward Sword, but I have a feeling they may possibly have some influence on my rankings. This was a good year of gaming overall, but not a particularly good one for me. Lots of well made, solid looking games but most aren't my thing.
