Deleted Scene from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla?

Postby Mugendude26 » Thu Nov 17, 2011 5:53 pm

So I stumbled upon this video earlier of the Japanese movie trailer for Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla which shows something I found interesting. At 1:42 in the video, it shows Fake Godzilla transforming into Mechagodzilla but it's different from the transformation seen in the actual film. Does anyone by any chance know if this is a deleted scene or what?

Quoted from an earlier topic (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5933) dealing with issue:

Goji wrote:It was SPX footage used just for the trailer. Many of the trailers for Toho's films from the Showa era have footage not seen/used in the final film.

Goji wrote:More than likely, it was filmed exclusively for the trailer anyway.

Hope that clears things up. :)

I kind of like the little flares and things leading up to that version. It would have been cool if they created a miniature mock-up of MG and actually melted a rubber skin off it.

I always found it kind of cool how they put stuff like this in some of the trailers.

I read an interview with Nakano where that was brought up and he said it was just test footage for the transformation scene.

Interesting but wouldn't be good if used in the film.

I watched this movie just a couple days ago and it is different. I remember seeing this in the theater around the same time I saw King Kong Escapes. Both classics that need to stick around.

I remember seeing an "Alternate or deleted scenes" video off of youtube or tokyomonsters which was for Gvs.MG'74. I wouldn't doubt that the jumping thing is part of a short deleted sequence. I remember there being a shot in which MG shoots his finger missiles (finger bang) at a sleeping King Caesar.

Just do a Youtube search for the trailer, Patrick. Every Godzilla trailer has effects shots that aren't in the movies. It's very common.

Don't let Evan confuse you into thinking there are actually deleted sequences that we don't know about laying around.

i've seen the trailer and saw KC rolling, then jumping, I just thought that the director had to have shot more KC stuff that didn't make it into the movie

I never said there was any whole deleted scenes. I said I saw an "'alternate or deleted scenes'" video. I never said there was any real deleted scenes. Though MG shooting at KC while the ritual song was still being performed is rather questionable. Nor was it a part of the trailer, now that I think of it. It was a special feature off of the R2DVD.

Although regardless, last I checked, you have not interviewed the people who have made these films nor have you gone through Toho's film vault to see if there is any whole scenes deleted. So let's not assume that something isn't there that could in fact be in existance. You never know. You have to keep an open mind about these kinds of things.

And you have?

There's having an open mind and there's being realistic. It's possible to do both.

I think if entire effects sequences (other than the ones we're already aware of) were removed from the older Godzilla movies we'd at least know about them. We know all about alternate story treatments or abandoned concepts for many of these films, and none of that stuff got close to the filming stage. If full effects sequences were shot and discarded (even if they no longer exist) I think by this point it would be something we'd know about.

^ I disagree, Legion. You really just never KNOW what might turn up.....you shouldnt dismiss at least the possibility of unseen/dummy reel footage. Things like these turn up all the time: Looney Tunes snippets never intended to be seen by the public, entire hours of test shots and the like that are recently being added as 'dvd extras', etc..etc...
The fact is, you CANT know what might be out there; not unless you have been snooping through Banno's estate or poking through Honda's garbage bins - ?

I rather enjoy holding out hope. Like I said, 'stuff' turns up ALL the time. Old test shots/B reels are just scarce, like cryptids, but they are out there.
