USA-Released Soundtracks (?)

Postby Rody » Wed Nov 30, 2011 1:31 pm

With Media Blasters releasing the soundtracks for Destroy All Monsters and Godzilla vs. Megalon, I began wondering: have any other soundtracks been released in America? I know I could probably find the Japanese releases online, but I can't read Japanese.

There was La-La Land Record's King Kong vs. Godzilla Soundtrack:
http://www.tohokingdom.com/cd/kkvsg_lala.htm
And Godzilla: 50th Anniversary Edition: http://www.tohokingdom.com/cd/g50th_lala.htm

But, if you want a particular Japanese soundtrack in MP3 format, just PM me.

There's a whole section for soundtracks on the main site, check it out. :)

Well, yeah... But how many are in English? That's what I need.
And, honestly, it can be a pain to sort through that page. It seems kind of messy.

GNP Crescendo released Godzilla 2000, Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, and the two Best Of Godzilla compilations.
LaLa Land released Godzilla '54, King Kong vs. Godzilla, and Godzilla '98.
ADV released the first US edition of Destroy All Monsters, and also Rebirth of Mothra, Rebirth of Mothra II, and Rebirth of Mothra III.
And of course as you mentioned, Media Blasters has released Destroy All Monsters and Godzilla vs. Megalon.

There have also been about six Godzilla soundtrack box sets, I believe spanning the entire series. Though, I'm not sure if they have every score. (If you want, PM me and I can point you in the right direction)

Those aren't released in the States though, Rody was specifically asking for soundtracks that where released in the US.

You can get them through Screen Archives.

But the Perfect Box collections aren't American releases which was the original question at hand. You can get any Japanese released soundtrack if you know where to look in America.

Screen Archives carries the Pefect Collections as part of their inventory. So you can find brand new copies from them, not like used used/resold copies from a secondary source like ebay or amazon marketplace. Hence, why I brought it up and why I thought it mattered. I thought he was pertaining to soundtrack albums that have been officially released in the US, not produced, which the original question does NOT precisely clarify.

, I began wondering: have any other soundtracks been released in America?

It also sounds to me that he wants the music specifically, not exactly the physical material such as linear notes. When I loaded the Perfect Collections into iTunes, the tract titles automatically showed, so translation shouldn't be a problem.

I appreciate the help, guys; thanks.
Now I have to know where to look...

EDIT: Just to make myself clear, I am interested in actual CD's, since I don't have I-tunes yet.

iTunes is free to download. And it should only take a few moments to download and install.

But you don't necessarily need iTunes specifically. If you have a Windows computer, it comes with Windows Media Player, which you could use to play music and burn CDs.

As for the CDs, you will most likely have to buy them online. Welcome to the modern world of score collecting. Most score labels only release their material online, and you can only find their CDs physically stores if someone sold them to Half Price Books or a Buybacks or pawn shop, etc. Only major labels, like Watertower Records and the commercial releases from Varese, puts their soundtrack albums in actual stores like Best Buy, Walmart, FYE, etc. Even then, it is incomplete scores from modern films or scores that for some reason managed to stay in print. But releases from the likes of FSM, LLL, Intrada, and Varese's special collections are only sold on their own websites and the likes of Screen Archives. Intrada also sells CDs from FSM, LLL, and Varese. Most of their albums are limited too, but occasionally, each of them will release unlimited quantities.

You can get the Media Blaster CDs from Amazon or even Best Buy's website.

I believe the LLL CDs went out of print. Unlike other score labels, after a while, they start decreasing the prices of their scores. I got Gojira from them about 1 or 2 ago for roughly $9. Soon after, it was $6. Currently, it is $29.99 for a used copy on Amazon. I saw KKvG for $24.99 on there, as well. I suppose the prices aren't too bad. They are American-based releases, with English linear notes.

For the other soundtracks, I would seriously recommend bending the "American only" stipulation and go for the actual imports. There are also the "Best Of" releases, which I used to find in Walmart like 15 years ago. I believe they are still floating around, though they might be out of print. I don't know, but I'm sure you can order them on Amazon.

Are you also looking for American CDs or any CD released that can also be purchased in America?

If its the former then we've covered that but if it's the latter then you can find retailers located in the states where you can purchase Japanese released soundtracks that they've imported.

I can't read Japanese, so I would prefer releases that have English listings.
On the other hand, if my computer can translate the tracks, maybe it's not a big deal....

You'll never need to worry about translating tracks as long as you use this web site.

When you put a CD in, if you are connected to the internet, iTunes will verify with a database, and automatically do the track titles for you.

Not for Japanese releases, at least not most of the ones I've uploaded.

I'm not sure if this is true, but that can depend on the computer/iTunes version. For example, the iTunes on my Mac does provide the track titles for (most of) the Japanese CDs I have, although the titles are in Japanese, naturally, and not translated.

(BTW, isn't this topic supposed to be in the toys, books and CDs section?)
