Conan was originally published as anthologies in pulp magazines but appealed more to boys then adults. When collected it was marketed as Boy's Adventure, not pulp.

Since then, Conan has been published almost exclusively in novel form, along with many comics (the most popular being The Savage Sword of Conan Magazine printed by Marvel.

Well Disney and all their evilness has pretty much destroyed all hope of getting a sequel to this. How so you say? It needs to make SEVEN HUNDRED MILLION in order to get a sequel... D:

I was reading on CBM that the movie has a 250 million budget. I'm starting to think that this movie is going to fall under the same foot steps that Sahara (2005) had. Sahara had a budget around the same amount and Shara also had a similar setting that John Carter had (I'm pretty sure the book of Shara was inspire by John Carter but I could be wrong). Sahara is considered to be one of the biggest box office failures in Hollywood history since Cutthroat Island (1995).

The trailer was released:

The CG looks amazing and it looks like it can be a fun movie. I will be seeing it on the first weekend for sure.

While the CGI doesn't look like it's on par with Avatar's, just saying I could be wrong but this looks KICK skreeonk ASS! GOD am I watching this one, God Damn am I watching this as it's SOO EPIC!!!

But going back to what I said about the CGI, ehh not everyone can be as good as Avatar as hollywood isn't up to that standard yet but it still looks good.

I like the design and effects, I'm just hoping it has the plot to back it up. The fact that former Pixar crew raises my hopes, but both trailers seem to be sporting more action and style than substance, not that Burroughs was really known for anything besides swashbuckling adventure.

I'm not a huge fan of the design for the green Martians, they look to lanky. Also don't know how I feel about Taylor Kitsch's Conan/Batman/Action Hero voice. I know John Carter is a world-weary cowboy, but I always imagined the character sounding a bit more Zorror-esque then Clint Eastwood.

Regardless, I'm still really excited about this movie. But what the skreeonk is with the title? Disney is spoiling a huge franchise opportunity. John Carter and the Princess of Mars wouldn't be any more clunky then the titles for the Pirates movies and allows you to work off the titles of the original novels.

That's a good point, but I'm not sure how much of a franchise can really be built off this film at the moment. From what I read the projected budget is over $250 mill. I honestly see this film having trouble breaking even.

Disney is likely going to spend another 50 million marketing on the movie. It depends on how well the word of mouth is, I hope this movie won't flop like Mars Needs Mom's did. Unlike that movie, I see more people liking the trailers for this movie and the bad marketing is why that movie flop so badly.

Simple rebooty type titles are popular now.

I remember reading that they called it "John Carter" to avoid confusing with other movies with the same title. The Sci-Fi Channel made a John Carter movie a few years back

I read somewhere on Comicbookmovie news they gave us an explanation.

Calling it John Carter and the princess of mars wouldn't draw in the boys or something because it sounds to girl or something and they couldn't call it John Carter of Mars because woman wouldn't be into it or something. So the compromise is John Carter. If I ever find the article, I'll post it.

But yeah, REALLY hoping we get a sequel I really do because the Alien genre is kind of dying as of Late. Moms need mars did BADLY, GL did kind of bad depending on how you look at it, Cowboys and aliens are almost in the same boat as Green Lantern, and then there's what people say how alien flicks are as good as they use to be.

^The Alien genre is hardly dead, Battle: Los Angeles came out this year and did pretty well at the box office. The Darkest Hour comes out this Christmas and you got both Men in Black III, and Prometheus coming out next year. You also forgot that Transformers 3 and Apollo 18 came out this year as well.

If you ask me, the last thing that we need is more Aliens in films. They are becoming over used like Zombies and Vampires.

I'm cautiously excited. I'm worried that this film might rely too much on Burroughs's "if it's bad, than smash it" style of writing. While, it's fun its own little world, I feel like it might not make for a good film.

Disney just started to do more marketing on the film since most people still don't know about the film. This doesn't come as much of a surprise to Disney since they nervous that it will lose a significant amount of money after the recent box office bomb of Mars Needs Mom's.

On the good side, the movie is getting some good reviews. I hope the word of mouth will help the film.
