I am indifferent. I won't miss her if she isn't, but I wouldn't mind her returning either.

It depends. If we're going to stick with the classic version, a hybrid of Godzilla cells and a rose with a human soul mixed in, then no. The original movie handled that as well as can be expected, and it doesn't need to be tried again.

However, I think Biollante could work reasonably well as a more generic plant monster. The Godzilla and human connections aren't nessecary; just make it an alien or something. I've always liked the idea of Biollante attacking a city by keeping her main body underground, and just spreading her vines and tendrils all over the place. Each of the venus-flytrap tendrils could be a dangerous monster in its own right; just picture dozens of those things swarming through the streets, smashing through buildings, eating people, spewing acid all over everything...the military would be running around trying to take them out, only to have them withdraw into the ground and regenerate every time they're injured. And then Godzilla shows up, torching the vines and prompting Biollante to unearth herself and attack him directly.

Something like that might not be a bad candidate for the LP movie, actually. Big, dangerous, weird, and easy enough for mainstream audiences to take seriously, not being your usual humanoid, guy-in-a-suit kind of kaiju. Powerful enough to give Godzilla a good fight, but not an apocalyptic threat like Ghidorah or something. The only downside would be that she's hard to make into a toy.

I'd like to have Biollante back if only because it has some potential human interaction that many other monsters lack. Imagine that Biollante is actually inmortal, wouldn't thank be heavy on a human soul, imo it feeds the drama very well and allows the character to have some seudo-Mothra heroism. Also you can easily bring a tragic side on that kind of character, tied with Godzilla without ever wanting to have that link. It's an strong character that can lead to strong stories.

Of course, all depends on the writer. A complete reboot would make it a less interesting character imo, but it may never happen as the character is not that famous. (If I ever write a Godzilla comicbook I'd be thrilled to bring her back)

Not too get too off topic, but I always thought that despite Erica's soul being bound to Biollante, she never seemed hesitant to be hostile towards human beings. She even almost attacks Dr. Shirigami (her own father!) and the others on the dock, proceeds to completely demolish the JSDF before engaging Godzilla during the film's climax, and even attacks and kills several JSDF soldiers in a deleted scene (which is also present in the manga adaption of the film).

Yeah, but by that time, didn't Miki state that she could no longer sense Erica's soul in Biollante? I'll have to re-watch the movie again, but I seem to remember her saying that before people started getting attacked.

No, you're right mccoy; I forgot about that line actually. I believe it's also present in the original dialogue, if the subs on the Thai DVD (which was an official release) and Tokyo Monsters subs are anything to go by.

Unless of course you want to include the attack on the Bio-Major agents and the Saradian agent in Shirigami's lab. Though, the way I looked at that was that they were raiding her father's lab and she got mad.

RoG and GvsB dealt with some controversial subjects - nuclear energy & genetic research.

I think in today's world they could do something fantastical as well but they need to avoid cheese and Shinsei era non-sense like space aliens, cartoony kaiju and camp.

I think some of the appeal to GvsB was Godzilla not being a massive beam spamming cartoony monster that he evolved to for GvsM BFTE and GvsSG.

They could do a sequel to GvsB with Junior as Godzilla and perhaps cloning the professor and Biollante returning when the ANEB being recreated and Godzilla being lured in. But it needs to be dark and gritty and more REAL.

One way or another, Yes she should return but if its only "just cause" then No, it needs to be really well done (Story, Effects, etc).

I already post this video of Biollante in the Web video topic but i think it needs to be seen again just to realize how much effort it was put in her
Movements in GvsB.

I think it might be cool to see biollante again. I really liked both of her forms, but for some reason I really love her rose form.

Same here. The rose is so attractive that it's hard to call it a monster, even with the teeth and tentacles. It's certainly a nice way of getting across the idea of Erica's benevolent soul being in Biollante. I don't think that would have worked so well if she looked like an acid-spewing flora-gator right off the bat.

Wouldnt it rawk if Biollante comes back and settles on Mars, turning it into a green planet covered in monsterous plants and she sends spore Biollantes to take out Goji but he totally turns into Super Godzilla, flies to Mars and takes over the planet?!

...sounds like a fan fic.

Wow. Well, at least if they do bring her back in the future, they might be able to use lighter material.
I fully agree with what you say, though. Biollante was fantastic; I don't want her to return if she's only poor shadow of her original appearance.

That's one of the few good things GFW did, they learned to make suits out of a new and lighter material.

Hopefully they'll do that for future films assuming they'll still use suits.

Yeah I agree. Though I do still like Biollante's second form it's very interesting how they came up with a plant/godzilla type hybrid, but yeah I really love the rose form. It's a shame there's not many figures of it either. The marmit rose biollante looks so nice, but it's really hard to find.

Id certainly like to see Biollante again, though as was said before only if done right. I think there's still a lot more that could be done with her and I always thought the idea of a human merged with a monster was interesting.
