Yeah. Funny thing is, shortly before creating all this moral ambiguity in the saga, he tried to remove some from the originals by having Greedo shoot first (which has the side effect of skreeonk up an important moment of characterization).

Yup. I still haven't let go of the pussyfication of Han Solo. The man was supposed to be an outlaw gun-slinger, and he lets a f*cking bounty hunter take a shot at him from across a goddamn table? Bullshit. Idiotic , illogical, pointless bullshit.

I like old Star Wars more as well, but I dont see how anything in his new films is twisted. Sure there are villains who exploit political systems etc, but I dont see how that makes the films twisted. They're villains!

It's the behavior of the heroes that's twisted. omgitsgodzilla already gave several, excellent examples:

omgitsgodzilla wrote:The prequels messed that up by showing the Jedi as a cultlike order that took Force-sensitive children from their families at a young age and trained them to repress their emotions to serve the organization they were placed in with no regard for their own wishes, which frankly made the Sith look kind of sympathetic by comparison. Moral ambiguity is a very real thing and ought to be used in film but that wasn't the point of Star Wars.

And their standard when it come to making moral judgements...

omgitsgodzilla wrote:Ah, the irony in "Only a Sith lord deals in absolutes" was delicious...

for all the flash and polish of the new trilogy it's empty, lifeless and filled with characters who for some reason are completely stupid and constantly say and do things that make no sense whatsoever. I noticed a ton of it before i ever saw the Plinlkett reviews (if you haven't seen them look em up)

and not only did Lucas change the thing with Greedo, but now Jar Jar Binks can be heard at the end of Return of the Jedi and he replaced the original Anakin's ghost with and image of hayden christensen: to quote the plinkett review, why does anakin get to be a young ghost and obi wan has to be an old ghost? How does luke even know who that is since he NEVER SAW YOUNG ANAKIN??!

He needs to leave the freaking movies alone, or at least take the lord of the rings route and make the originals and the special editions both available.

Coincidentally, the two best reviewed and highest grossing trilogies of all time are Toy Story and Lord of the Rings lol

on topic (finally) i agree with the sentiments that the new writer is probably not starting from the ground up but is building off of goyer's treatment. Hope they get the ball rolling for real soon

Can we not talk about the Star Wars prequels? Please?

Any news on what these guys are actually writing yet? Or are we just throwing them in the garbage bin each time?

Not much of a true update, Max Borenstein has been slated to now work on Disney's Paladin. Which could mean one or two things.

1. He's done working on the Godzilla script and is now moving onward. Or at least he's almost finished up and has enough room on his plate to move on and handle another script task.

2. He's multi-tasking with multiple forms of works, the Godzilla script isn't completely done yet, and another serving of work has been added onto his plate.

Well, he was tapped back in November 2011, although it was announced on the 9th. Its now March 10, that's about 5 months right there. With that in mind, I'd say that Max is most likely done with the script.

-It took Dave 3 months for the first draft (Granted, he only did one or two shots at rewriting some of the acts, and we do not know if his script was completely scrapped or simply worked on.)
-David Goyer was tapped in July to work on the Godzilla script before the announcement of Max in November, (Which in that time frame was about 4 months)
-And of course there's Gareth Edward working on the script as well. (Though we don't know the complete extent of his involvement on working the script. )

Overall, I think the script might be finally finished. Now all that has to be done is some approval and a major announcement about the film.

I agree with you Blackout
im not for sure if Edwards said he would also work on the script too or not but i do think that it is finally done and we can expect a major announcement any day now!

This guy is new and getting started so theres no way he would abandon a major project like this for some crappy Disney movie

Wanna bet? This project is dead in the water. How do I know? Borenstein hasn't completed the script. This is why they've attached him to the Paladin project, because its his baby. Any writer worth his salt or ambitions in LaLaLand will drop any for hire project in favor of his/her own work.
Within the next month or so you will hear news of another writer attached to the film and it will also go nowhere.
Legendary stirred up the pot with all of this news so they can hold onto the rights to the character for the time being because it makes them money. Remember when that Fantastic Four movie was made for little to no money. It was so the owner of the characters could retain the rights. As long as you've got the ball rolling, you can keep the character.
Legendary will maybe make the movie in the next 5 years. By that time Edwards will have gone on to other things. They'll hire another director and script writer/doctor to keep the ball rolling.
Sorry guys.

^Honestly CommanderJoe if that were the case, I would rather be informed of that outcome than expecting something to happen only to get nothing. The project went through 3 writers in which all have walked away. There is definitely something going on that LP isn't telling us. I say let Toho handle the project alone.

A bit cloudy aren't we ?

Max needs titles underneath his belt (especially if he wants to build a reputation and be completely acknowledged when compared to other writers), and of course if the bill is right, then you know that he'll do it. And saying that LP will finally make the film in 2017 is a bit over the top, are you that gloom and doom?

I doubt they all walked away, script writers are tools that are used to help build up a movie. During some parts and acts, a different tool might be needed in order to get the job of that particular task done. If Toho handled the project alone then it wouldn't be a American Godzilla film now would it? With that mind set, might as well just do all of it there in Japan with suitanimation and etc, and hope that its successful. Then again, last time Toho had a huge budget Godzilla film, it magically turned into Final Wars and look how that turned out.

You know, a lot of you have been saying this for months now. If you're really giving up on this movie, stop posting in this forum and save the rest of us the trouble of having to see your negativity all over the place.

I really don't think any of you appreciate how complicated development of a film can be.

I think the script is most likely finished.

Dave wrote the first draft, all three acts.

David Goyer most likely worked on Dave's script (I say this because if it were a completely new script, then it would've taken much longer since it would be a first draft. Even more so, Max probably wouldn't have been tapped at all, or at least so soon if it were that case.).

And Max most likely finalized things.

And as Blackout said, Gareth added his own touches to the script as well, although it was probably before David Goyer's announcement IMO.

That's what happens whenever there's a info drought, first comes the slowly draining of patience. Then after a month, the edgy-ness slowly starts to set in. Then after another month, they eventually lose hope for the film and give up on it. I just find it a bit amusing to be honest. If nothing is being said or if there are writer changes, it does not automatically mean that there's trouble, or that the film is in a bind. Hell, for all we know things could be 'rolling' on just fine, but they won't announce anything until its completely done and official.

God damn, G-Fans can be some of the whiniest, most impatient people.

Like seriously, its doom and gloom at every frickin' step of the way.

How about we wait until they release something like a teaser trailer before we start "giving up on this movie?" =/

And how do you "give up" on a movie thats not even made yet?

Oh, I'm sorry, is it being made too slowly for some of you? What the Hell do you want? For them to rush it just so you could complain that its a rushed, half-assed cash-in? There's just no winning with some of you.
