Gigan and Titanosaurus are top contenders as well.

I love his design in G3, but not sure how he got to what he is.

He's an old man. You know how age takes its toll on your proportions.

I prefer the G2 design best. It's not as "EXTREME!" as Gamera '99 but it's not as friendly-looking as Gamera '95. It's a nice medium.

I enjoy the G3 look in the context of the story; but as a "go to" design, it's so drastically out of character it is silly. G2 is the ultimate look for the character, IMHO. It always seemed to me that he had reached full maturity by G2, but his disconnection from Asagi/manipulation of mana caused the mutation.

I imagine the mohawk like the silver back feature of male gorillas. It's a sign of maturity and strength.

I think it's mutation, personally. Or maturation. It wasn't just that he looked different, he had new parts in some of the movies.

My favorite Gamera - NIGHTMARE GAMERA from G3.

I have this figure. It's a great figure but IMHO it's less detailed then any other X-Plus Gammy or even Sega and RocketPro.

I think the G3 design has a nice sense of size. He really looks like a titanic creature.

If only Gamera was a big enough name to warrant a fighting game, this Nightmare would be an awesome hidden fighter.

What a shame.

I see Gamera's transformation simply as changing with the character, as Godzilla did in the Showa series (except backwards). Gamera starts out as a fully devoted, all friendly kaiju, but gradually hardens and finally just sort of snaps.

They didn't really have a good way of perserving the suits back in the Showa days so they had to make new ones almost every other film.

Heisei series is different, they had ways to perserve the suits so theylast much longer hence why Godzilla barely changes through most of the later Heisei films. The changes to Gamera's design in the Heisei films were intentional.

I'm going to have to agree with this on all counts. Although I don't think the films' audiences had much to do with his transformation as was the case in the Godzilla films. It had more to do with the tone of the films more.

Still, it's fun to turn it into a discussion like this. This got interesting pretty quickly.

True, but they could have made the suits look the same every time. Instead, each suit was unique, and represented Godzilla's personality for that film.
