Emmy up to no good?

Postby Thunder97 » Mon Nov 14, 2011 12:26 am

So whenever I watch Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, (Talking about the english dub version) this has always bothered me.. When they are in the past looking for the "dinosaur", Emmy at one point releases the Dorats.. So right before they are about to leave the past they show Miki I believe it was, notice that the dorats are gone from there cage.. Then she asks about them, and in response a nervous Emmy quickly tells the ship to take off/go back to present time.. Obviously up to no good is Emmy with her actions.. Alright, here is the confusing part, when we return to the present.. King Ghidorah is born and destruction is under way.. To which now an apparently shocked Emmy can't believe these deceitful men (Future guys) are destroying her homeland with King Ghidorah.. And to that I say, SAY WHAT Miss Emmy??? I mean she released the dorats, what did she think was gonna happen? She was clearly up to no good acting like one of the villains of this story/movie, then all of a sudden she does a face turn/good guy turn and is shocked at the results of helping create King Ghidorah.. And goes on to be the hero for the rest of the movie, with everyone thanking her at the end.. Ignoring everything was her fault to begin with, and all the destruction that now remains from her actions lol.. This seems very odd, is this a lost in translation problem with the english dub lol

No. It's just the poor writing.

That always kind of made my eyes roll. She purposely helped create a giant monster of terrible destruction and then, after massive amounts of damage was done, she says "oh, this isn't what was supposed to happen!" and everybody is her friend again. I liked that movie, but there were several "you've got to be kidding me" moments in it.

I remember the last time I watched GvsKG91, I just fast forwarded past all that shit and stopped it when Godzilla killed KG. The movie serves two purposes:

Explains RoG84 and Godzilla's origin
Introduces the tech to create MechaG and MOGUERA

Despite all the poor writing, this film is still a guilty pleasure of mine. Godzilla looks fantastic in this..but now I'm getting off topic.

This was definitely something that always bugged me as well. It would have made much more sense if M11 was the one who released the Dorats instead of Emmy. The only sense that I can see from this is if Emmy was told some false information that would compell her to release the Dorats. Of course, I have no idea what the hell she could've been told that would cause her to set some Dorats free on an island that she knows damn well is going to be hit by an atomic bomb in ten years. I personally really like this movie, but that moment is just... :eh: ?

As has been said, it's just the bad writing. At the very least they could've done something like revealing that Wilson and Grenchko never told anyone else that they planned to actually destroy Japan and KG was just to be used as leverage. Even that's flimsy but still better.

Anyhow, I do still find fun in this movie. It's not high on my list but not low down either.

What they could have done was say that they told her to release them as an experiment (or she could have lied about it to begin with), but she knew exactly what was going on, and nobody seemed pissed at her; even Miki, who figured it out to begin with. "Hey, you assisted in the near-total destruction of Tokyo! But we hope you have a safe trip home!" It's a shame that a film with such a cool monster, great music and good monster action had so many aspects of it ruined by bad writing. Maybe not ruined, but certainly made it harder to swallow.

Small changes were made to the suit's head I believe, but for the most part it was the same suit.

The simple answer is that she is retarded. I mean, if you had a giant futuristic cyborg that could fly, why would you just sit there on the ground? No to mention, why would you even invent a weapon as asinine as the machine hand? She is also a terrible pilot, and kind of a perv flirting in the family. And apparently patent leather looks just as cheap and awful in the future as it did in 1992.

Lol, that bottom pic is from SPACEGODZILLA!

The head was pretty different, but yeah, VS. KING GHIDORAH featured the same (land) suit from BIOLLANTE.

Lol. I can't really blame you. I'm curious what Toho's HD version looks like (though it's probably nothing spectacular). I hear BIOLLANTE is actually one of the more semi-decent of the Toho Godzilla BD's.

We can cross our fingers that Sony will be allowed to do their own transfers/HD masters when they bring the films they have the rights to, to BD. They were allowed to do that with all of the Showa films they released on DVD, and it's why they look so damn good. (Minus HEDORAH being a little bit dark).

Is the GvsB BRD actually subbed? If so, I might track it down. I love GvB and I have a great bootleg of it. But Id support any legit Heisei Godzilla release.

Is Sony even looking into acquiring the rights to GvB? If they did and got em it'd be nice to see them snag the rights to do RoG/G85 and offer a nice boxset of the Heisei films. Oh, to wish!

Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah tries to be smart but it's just confusing and horrible.
