The ending really sat well with me. Kinda felt like a best of both worlds result. The comic was gritty and following Sato, his grim and dark tale rub off. And I when I opened the first pages of issue 5 I easily bought the bait that he was going to die. But was delighted to see the happy ending. Totally charmed when he answered the door.

As for the art I loved its original style (not one I'm familiar with from other comics at least).

Alot of spreads stood out but Off the top of my head the best art in the series for me would have to be Mothra's assaults on the criminal underground Docks and trucking depo in issue 3.

Discussion: What Stood out as the best art work in the Gangsters & Goliaths series??
The dead animals in KOM are a result of high powered signals sent from aliens,to awaken the dormant monsters. Animals with similar senses are overloaded from the signal &drop dead. That way much of the world will be destroyed in prep for the invasion.

You know, I wonder if the corrup police oficer made Sato's covered death possible so he (Sato) could actually be safe of legal consequences of indirectly causing so much damage and death, instead of just to cover his corrupted ass...

I liked how Mechagodzilla had an "encounter" with Godzilla, with the intention of calling his atention, instead of a full battle; it felt apropiate for the storytelling, but I do feel that all the other monsters were put for the sake of it. I wonder if they will take the risk of having issues without Godzilla at all (Legends #2, maybe?).

Anyway, loved this series.

So just finished reading the issues back to back
I have to say this is my favorite godzilla comic serie yet: the characters are fun,the art is great IMO,and although simple a great story .
From the first issue i was hooked and waited with anticipation to the next issue since then

overall great comic miles over the main serie sadly and IMO better then the dark horse serie
5 out of

I finally finished reading this.

Suffice it to say, it was outstanding. Art was gorgeous, monsters looked fantastic, the story was gripping, and the mood was set all the way back in the first half of issue #1. The only bad part is that Layman and Ponticelli are done with Godzilla. (For now?)

Just got the Gangsters and Goliaths TPB and KOM # 8 in the mail today!
The verdict...
G&G is a very good take on the Godzilla series; it really does seem like a story perfect for the Showa era! It's got showa monsters (except for some), and a showa-style plot. The monsters are also rendered quite nicely in this series, but I wish Gigan and KG had bigger roles.

Any clue on when the TPB of G&G will be out? Planning on getting that, Legens 1, and KOM 9 this month.

A little late here, but I thought that was a fitting end to that story. Did anyone else? I mean, things moved a little too quick monster action-wise in the last issue, but really the main focus of the series wasn't on the monsters anyway. For Sato to finally take responsibility and make up for what he did wrong, then spend the rest of his life on Monster Island was kind of touching to me.

Yeah, that was the best way they could have ended it for me.

It was released this past Wednesday. I've seen it with my own eyes. The back of the book has a full cover gallery, including all 3 covers for each issue. Plus the SDCC exclusive cover. (Yep, that includes the b&w covers!)

Is that so? Huh... I'm not doubting you or anything, but I'm trying to order online (since I don't have a local comic shop in my area), and Amazon has pre-orders now, and they will be released the 22nd.

Amazon doesn't always get things at the same times as comic shops.

If anyone doesn't want to wait, Tales Of Wonder is reputable, I've ordered from them multiple times:

Ah... Okay then. But I'll discipline myself for right now. I mean, a comic at the beginning of the month? Too much spoils. :P Besides, I want to get Legends first, then G&G/KOM #9.

I was way late on the last issue, but damn was it worth it. GGG was my favorite Godzilla comic storyline by far. I'm still keeping up with KOM, but I can't say I'm necessarily thrilled about it.

This was the first comic book I've ever purchased, and I liked it a whole lot. I enjoyed seeing all of the monsters in it and the plot was nice too.
