Monsters was a well recieved movie. I seen Monsters and I like his directing style, he gives me hope on the film but I'm really letdown that Goyer left with no reason. I think Goyer could got into trouble with both LP and Toho on the film. I knew something like this would happen!
Looking back on it now, don't really see the issue with Goyer leaving at this point. Goyer was never the sole reason behind the success of (Batman Begins, TDK) There was another writer working with him plus Nolan, same with (Man of Steel) it had Nolan an Nolans brother behind him to add to it.
David Goyer probably wrote the first or second official draft, taking possible elements from David Callaham's script, Then Gareth Edwards probably added a little bit to it, Finally bringing in this new fresh writer to finalize the script giving it a different twist. This is at-least what i am hoping of course.. If this is the case then i'm okay with it if they got rid of Goyer an having this guy write an entire new script (which i doubt) then i'm gonna be extremely skeptical on how this film turns out.
I've been saying for a while Godzilla wasn't coming until 2014, This is a pretty much a given now after the re-write it will easily be early 2012 before we get another announcement. Expect a February or March 2012 date for another announcement it either being another writer or an official release date for the film. As of recently it's been every 3 or 4 months we've been getting news.
In any case best of luck to Edwards because this is gonna be a difficult task, many think it's easy to make a Godzilla film but the fact is this is an American Godzilla film. I'd be heavily disappointed if he dropped out. Chances are the film wont get made if he does, sure there are many people that could handle it but many will refuse the offer.
