Godzilla gets a new writer again (Max Borenstein)

Max Borenstein (The Seventh Son) has been tapped to write the planned remake of Godzilla. He currently wrote screenplay for Seventh Son for Legendary which is currently in pre-production. Apparently, the brass at Legendary are so impressed with his work that he's being given the responsibility to kickstart a potential tentpole franchise for the company. Sounds risky to me, seeing as he virtually has no other credits to his name unless you count writing a litany of films that were later re-written by others. Time will tell if that trend of near misses continues here or if this is indeed Mr. Borensstein's big brake.

Gareth Edwards, the director of the indie sci-fi movie Monsters, is attached to direct the Legendary Pictures film. Warner Bros.will distribute through Legendary.

David Goyer (The Dark Knight)worked on the last version of the script. It's currently unclear as to whether this will be a brand new script or simply a reworking of Goyer's script.

Well i don't know what that mean's but Legendary seems to now have a 3rd writer brought in to work on the script.

I don't know how i feel about this, another writer... i guess Goyer's script didn't work-out for them?

I really don't know how to feel about this one either. More so, it makes me feel worried about how the film will turn out since this guy doesn't have anything much under his belt.

Not sure about why David Goyer was replaced. Maybe he didn't have enough time to get the job done due to other factors in his life then just tapped out. Or possibly, they didn't really like his script. But I think it's the first one.

I mirror your thoughts on this. I guess we just have to see the final product (assuming this is it) to say for sure.

I'm not really liking this news...I felt that the film was a bit more secure with David Goyer working the script. With this guy, I can't truly comment on how I feel. Is this guy working on a new script completely? Or is he reworking on David Goyer's script?

Though I'm sure that some will find this discouraging, but since It's normal for a film to have different writers now and then. I'll remain collective and see how this is all handled. All I can do now is just hope for the best, but expect the worst.

Betcha the final script is held together solely by Wite-Out and duct tape.

David Goyer give me hope that this project will be good but it seems like they got another writer for the film. This is often a bad sign that means Toho and LP must not like his story draft. Maybe we will learn more about the writer and what he has in plan before we all worry over nothing.

Hey, another delay. Edwards might get frustrated and quit next.

I was actually thinking the same thing.

But would he really walk away from his "big break"?

I think it is safe to say this movie is not in pre-production as Legendary stated.

I don't know how to feel either. Maybe pissed that the film is being set further back? Happy that Toho probably just stopped something before it was too late and would have pissed off fans?

Damn. Can't say I'm surprised, but I was pretty excited for Goyer's take.

I like how everyone's getting their panties in a bunch over a new writer. Gareth Edwards is a rookie director as well only directing a few tv show episodes and "Monsters" which wasn't that good. This new guy must be good if Lp is hiring them ;)

...also, it's not like Godzilla films are known for their amazing plots. All I'm looking for is a movie with GODZILLA in it. I'm pretty sure no matter who the writer is the film still won't be a "good" movie like Batman Begins and The Dark Knight.

Getting your panties in a bunch would be to be overly worried and over exaggerating the situation, and as you can clearly see..No one here is doing that. Mostly everyone who posted here don't know how to feel about this news yet because we're skeptical or just gonna wait in and see how things turn out. No one is being like "Man this film as gonna turn out to be **** now that Goyer has been replaced." or "I've lost all hope for this movie".

Now is this new guy possibly good? Maybe. From what I'm hearing around is that he might be possibly reworking Goyer's script and applying finishing touches. I don't think the aim is trying to be as good as the Nolan Batman films, it's aim is just being a good Godzilla film reboot overall and hopefully pumping life back into the franchise.

And if All your looking for is a movie with Godzilla in it, and nothing else. There's G&M:TBFE, the main focus is Mothra and Battra, but hey, Godzilla is in it. ;)

My best guess?

(and this is just a guess)

Borenstein is probably just finalizing Goyer's work for a shootable script

Or Godzilla vs Megalon where the true main character is jet Jaguar.
