Kawakita (the SPFX director throughout most of the Heisei Godzilla series) thought the monsters moving around and wrestling a lot looked too humanlike and unrealistic due to their size. So they made large, bulki creatures that mostly shot beams at each other, like a video game Pokemon battle.

I honestly think the last 4 Gamera films have been better than most Godzilla films since 1991 (GMK aside).

Gamera the Brave suffered not from the story itself in my opinion. It was strong enough for a kaiju move and is a good movie taken on it's own. Unfortunately It suffered From the direction the story took. I think people wanted more of the Trilogy Gamera or stories in that vain, The Brave felt more like a return to the Showa era stories With a far greater bond being built between Gamera and the young boy. It's worst offences though was the Gamera suit which looked so fake and the changing of Gamera's roar.

On Gamera the Brave, it has never received a dubbed release in the west. Something for Mill Creek to think about.

I was thinking the Media Blasters DVD had an English audio option, but I could be wrong...
I loved GtB, personally. So what if it's more lighthearted than the Trilogy? It's still a very good movie. I didn't mind the Toto suit; I thought it looked realistically turtle-esque. The changed roar was annoying, though.

You might be right. It is as I said a great movie with a strong story. Watched and enjoyed it many times with subs of course :).

My DVD has a dub on it. I forget who made it though...

I stand happily corrected. :) My copy is from Japan so only has subs. could never find a dub version.

I'd have to agree with you there. I find Heisei and Millennium Godzilla entertaining, but that era's Gamera films are better.

I'm getting a Blu-Ray player for Christmas and was checking the trilogy set out as a possible purchase. I'm not sure if I should wait a little bit or go ahead and get it. What's your opinion? Should I save my money and wait?

If the subtitle issue with GAMERA 3 isn't a big deal to you, then yes. These disks are a steal, and more than worth the $ regardless of that issue.

I actually already have the trilogy on DVD, so it won't be the first time I see it subtitled. Truthfully, there are other movies I want on Blu-Ray more right now so I'll put it on the list to get eventually but I'm not going to rush out and get it. I'll keep an eye here to see if anything changes.

2+ hours of extras as well remember. Again problems with subs on those but you can happily watch a lot of it without understanding what is being said.

True, and I said before I have the DVDs so I already have some idea what's being said. I may push this higher on the list.

Hello
Could you tell me, please, if this boxset will play on European PS3?

^The Blu-ray discs are region A, so they won't most likely work on European players.

I checked the region descriptions on Amazon, and apparently Europe is region B.

Dumb question, but what are the official English language titles for these movies? I see different names listed everywhere I go, especially for the last two.

It seems to change with the times, I'd assume that Mill Creek's titles can be considered official now (though "Attack of the Legion" is really dumb IMO, "Advent of Legion" is much more epic and appropriate. I also prefer "Incomplete Struggle" over "Revenge of Iris" as well, even though I still haven't seen the damn movie).
