I love the final fight... but it was stupid how the Mana Punch is supposed to be this big huge "I hit you with this and you go boom" effect, but it took Iris like a minute and a half to finally explode. It would of been better if he exploded a little, then BOOM!

The characters where good, except the boyfriend friend guy...(don't know if boyfriend, friend, or just guy) he was a whiny little bitch...

Anyways, one of my all-time favorite kaiju movies.

It may be more that Irys being seperaed from the girl whose name I forgot that destroyed him more so than the fist. Like the fist just destroyed the body, but the seperation destroyed what may pass for Irys's soul.

Oh, yeah, I see what you are saying, as in, it goes along with all the mystical stuff the movie has...
(I am truly not being sarcastic, I really do see where you are coming from)
But yeah, I love the Mana Fist... Almost as much as the Mana Blast from G2...

I personally like to think that the Gamera vs. Gyaos swarm battle in the opening of Gamera the Brave was the spiritual conclusion of the confrontation that was set up at the end of this film. Gamera having to self-destruct to destroy all the Gyaos seems like a likely outcome given how damaged he was after the battle with Iris.

But onto the topic. My first impression when I watched Gamera 3 was that I wished Gamera and Iris had fought a bit more, but the more I watched it, the more I didn't have a problem with it and started to appreciate what was there instead of lamenting what wasn't there. I now rank it as equal to Gamera 2 as each is great for reasons that the other lacks.

There was a bit too much CGI for my taste.

Also why does Gamera have a mohawk?

The only things I found distracting were the cultist characters. You could probably cut them straight from the movie with no real consequences.

Agreed! They seemed to exist so as too drive home the supernatural nature of the creatures, but they didn't do it very well.

I have NOTHING Bad to say about Gamera 3, it is my absolute favourite Kaiju movie besides Gojira. I love the characters, the music ( :P ) and the whole look. Too me, its perfect. BUT...it seems that it could have worked in a different medium. It has a very Anime story line to it that doesn't really translate well onto the screen. I like emotional weird supernatural animes with a lot of emotion and I think it would have done better that way, or a light novel.

i totally dont remember posting on this thread. im on the first page :dizzy:

I loved the Gamera Trilogy and that itself made Gamera my second favorite Hero type of Kaiju of all time, my favorite is Godzilla (Showa) of course.

The only thing I disliked is the thousands of Gyaos in the end going towards Gamera. How the hell is he going to handle that? The trilogy ends in a obvious note that Gamera dies.

Call me crazy, but I find it to very much be a bad thing when you don't notice the monster action in a monster movie...

That's my biggest gripe with G3. It tried being two different movies at once.

It's easily one of my favorite kaiju films. It accomplished many great things. It's not without its flaws, though. I don't know why some people are so hellbent on claiming a movie -- any movie -- is perfect. Sometimes a film's flaws make it more enjoyable to watch, which is better than being perfect in my opinion.

I like the mythology behind the Gamera Trilogy. I feel like it has more stories to tell. It's just a shame the writing in the third film didn't make things a little more sensible.

As for the Ryuseicho myth, I think it was originally a Gyaos, explaining why some thought it was a phoenix. Iris, being a Gyaos mutation, was descended from this Gyaos, and inherited the Ryuseicho legend. Although the legend itself is strange. So did people worship this Gyaos, calling it a guardian? Did they discover why this was a really bad idea? It must have been a different Gyaos, since there was a curved jewel in the cave with Iris's egg.

Speculating its mythology is one of my favorite things about this movie, even if it's all conjecture. :P

Let's face it, Gamera 3 has no negatives. It's the Citizen Kane of monster movies.

Citizen Kane wasn't well liked until long after it's release, before then critics hated it and it flopped. :?

There are perfect movies out there. Let me list some of them:
Gamera 3, Citizen Kane, The Wild Bunch, Chinatown, Godzilla Final Wars, A Fistful of Dollars, King Kong, Heavenly Creatures.

Okay... let me take this one...
Gamera 3, yes... Citizen Kane, haven't seen it... The Wild Bunch, got bored... Chinatown, bored again... Godzilla Final War...
How should I put this... Godzilla Final Wars was a good movie... But no where near perfect.

For even putting that... Your hole statement, and the rest of your opinions in this debate... are INVALID.

Just because they bored you, doesn't mean it's reprehensible. If anything, it speaks volumes about your taste in movies.

I think you clearly missed the GFW part... -_-
I actually have a good taste in movies... but everyone's taste in movies are different...
I think you thinking GFW is a PERFECT movie... just basically sums up your whole entire comprehension of cinema...
