Issue # 4 was good. I liked the country-wide monster rampage. All the monsters looked pretty good too. Rodan's wings were a bit odd and I missed Titanosaurus's antennae and 'ears', but neither were featured heavily enough to be major problems. And I dug the ideas of there being multiple Mechagodzilla models. Now I can't stop imagining Godzilla taking on a group of Mechagodzilla- one huge and loaded with firepower, one sleek and slim, one somewhere in the middle...

Bah, I'm getting carried away. So, yeah, comic was good.

That's too bad about the Titanosaurus errors... Otherwise that is a PERFECT drawing.

I thought it was a cool way to end the series. Makoto didn't have too much personality, but I liked him. And his ending worked out nicely. Takahashi, although not at all a very original villian, was a big enough asshole to really deserve what he got.

I'm actually glad we get to see Godzilla in a much more heroic role (or less animalistic one, at least). Even if it was for only, y'kno, two pages.

Oh man, is it worth it, though.

I was NOT expecting that.

5 was decent. The ending made me smile...

Just kinda makes me sad that it seemed, I dunno, rushed.

Enjoyed the Last issue but like the main book this book suffers from a real lack of monster versus monster action. Stands head and shoulders above KOM.

Humbug. We don't need monster vs monster action. We just need monster action. Which this issue doesn't lack.

Agreence and a half with that!
The dead animals in KOM are a result of high powered signals sent from aliens,to awaken the dormant monsters. Animals with similar senses are overloaded from the signal &drop dead. That way much of the world will be destroyed in prep for the invasion.

I disagree, I think the Godzilla comics right now needs more monster vs. monster action.

Last issue was pretty awesome. Godzilla purposely seeking out and killing Takahashi was interesting, as was the knowing look he exchanged with Mothra. And Sato becoming the new guardian of the Elias was a cool idea. Fitting, like he's still trying to redeem himself.

Takahashi was such a dick. I'm happy he went splat.

I held off on forming an opinion of this story until I could read the end. I think the first issues were the best, when the tale truly felt like a hard-boiled crime story that happened to have monsters in it. Really, Mothra could've been the only kaiju to appear in chapters 2-5, and I would've been happy. It's not that I don't like the succeeding issues, but I think it would've felt more cohesive if Takahashi had simply extorted Mothra's cooperation in the same way Sato had, but obviously be willing to kill the Elias where the detective would not have. It would more directly mirror Sato's sin.

All that being said, I did enjoy the story quite a lot. As most agree, it was better than anything going on in Kingdom of Monsters, and I was pleased to actually have some semblance of coherence, cause and effect, and characterization in this title. Sato may not have been very fleshed out, but at least he had a bit of attitude to connect with, and his goals and drive were understandable and easy to share.

I give Gangsters and Goliaths ****. Let's hope future comics are as willing to play with the conventions of the daikaiju genre as this one was.
