Ahem...back on topic, I love everything about Biollante. The design, the story, the sounds and weaponry, it all just clicks for me. Not to mention, as others have noted, that the puppetry and other effects Kawakita and his crew pulled off were miles ahead of anything yet to come. If L.P. brings any pre-existing monsters back, I hope she's one of them (provided they keep the whole "human spirit" metaphysics involved, since that's part of the charm for me).

This is one of the things I like best about Biollante other than the things I mentioned. Her origin is part of what made the film's narrative actually interesting, IMO.

Hmm. Maybe a thread on which Toho (or just Godzilla) movies are "scariest" would be a good thread. :g2k:

Love her roar too. Definitely agree that I like how she was born EXCEPT for the whole soul of the daughter thing. WTF were they thinking when they randomly tossed a dead doctor's daughter's soul in the mix? But other than that, it's awesome. Frankly her soul didn't play into the character of Biollante anyway so that's why I overlook it.

What motivation would Dr. Shiragami have to combine Godzilla cells with rose cells then? Shiragami wanted to combine the Godzilla cells with a rose that contained Erika's spirit because said Rose was dyeing, and he wanted Godzilla's regenerative properties to save her.

Granted, one could always just assume he was crazy the whole time, but I personally like the concept. It's unique and felt it was pulled off well.

There's no other way the script could've had him combine the cells of a rose with G cells? I can't subscribe to that notion. It's not a deal killer by any means. I always state that GvB is one of my favorite Godzilla movies.

They probably could have thought of something else, but I personally really like the concept.

It just makes GODZILLA vs. BIOLLANTE very unique and creative thematically, which is hard to say about the other modern films.

I can respect all of that, and GvB's uniqueness in so many ways beyond just the soul of his daughter is why I love the movie, along with its special effects and numerous other things. It's just an epic movie, in my opinion.

I always found the soul part of her origin iffy. She could just be a confused genetic abomination if they brought her back. Like she's jealous of her creator's daughter or lover or something.

I think she kinda was confused. Attacking armed thugs in her "father's" home, calling out to her "brother" just to attack him when he came looking for her out of curiosity what the hell was calling him. I almost feel bad for Godzilla and Biollante. It doesn't even look like he intended to fight it looked liked he got in the lake and was just trying to get a closer look at Biollante to figure out what she is when she suddenly felt threatened and attacked. It's like the first fight happened out of a total misunderstanding.

I don't know, maybe I'm just reading too much into it but it always looked like neither intended to fight and Godzilla just got too close for Bio's comfort.

I can't say I'd blame her; I'd be pretty scared & confused too, in that kind situation.

I really want to see this film again.... Hey Media Blasters!

I agree I usualy try to avoid these topics but sometimes they can be intresting although I think every monster is overrated by someone at somepoint, hell I think Giant Condor could beat the shit out of Destoryah.

I fail to see how one of the best choreographed SPX sequences in the entire series is "overrated". That word is thrown around constantly without any thought given to it. I'm guessing the reason most people say this is because they expected it to be some long, drawn out battle lasting over a half hour. We get TWO battles with Biollante in the film, which are both executed beautifully.

Just goes to show that you can't please all fans, even when the thing they're bitching about excels above everything that surrounds it (the SPX in the rest of the Heisei series). It's retarded.

People aren't saying she's overrated because of that some just feel she's overrated in power and get frustrated when she wins in FMs against monsters they feel would not lose to her. And this is honestly the last time I'm posting in here because I'm sick of this topic, I've said my thoughts on her in earlier posts so I'm done.

(Not necessarily in response to LC)

So..this topic is more about FM's, and the monster's overall (fictional) power, and not about anything to do with movie itself? Pffft..I'm glad I didn't bother reading the whole topic.

It's kinda of both people make her a god in the FM when she couldn't even defeat a sick godzilla.

It should've stayed in that FM though there was no need to make this topic all it did was move the same conversation somewhere else.

I know I said I'm done but I just have to say this.

1: You act like being sick makes Godzilla's beam less powerful. It doesn't. It's still an atomic skreeonk death ray.

2: So what if Godzilla is sick? It's still Godzilla. If you're fighting a bear and it's sick would you slack off? Hell no because it's still a skreeonk bear. Same thing here, it doesn't matter that he's sick, it still skreeonk Godzilla one of the most powerful Earth monsters ever and even sick he still spammed his beam like he wasn't and he still has aim just as good as when he isn't.

So sick or not he's still dangerous, he's still going to give you hell, he's still going to be hard to beat let alone kill, he's still gonna kick your ass and his death ray is still a skreeonk death ray and his aim is still good.

I know for a fact that IR said the same thing earlier, Godzilla is still dangerous even when sick, he's still gonna be a hard fight and he's death ray is still just as powerful as when he's not sick.

And considering the fight ended in a draw I say Biollante did a pretty damn good job especially considering she was fighting something that spams a weapon that cuts through her like a hot knife through butter. The battle could have ended up being worse.

Now I'm done.
