Fact is, Toho will not make any Godzilla movies around the same time frame as the LP movie. That's a given. The ball is in LP's court. And if that film actually does well and sequels are a serious possibility, you can bet that Toho will not make another Godzilla film as long as LP has the license and sees potential profit from the character.

On the subject of a 60th anniversery film, you're going to have to think of the LPG film as something of the sort because Toho is unlikely to be making one. Other than some odds and ends rumors fabricated by fans, there appears to be precisely zero consideration for a ~2014 Godzilla movie at Toho. Many fans may point to the comment about Godzilla's decade long hiatus, but that single comment has been taken far too seriously. Even so, it was made so many years ago that anyone in business or product planning would know that plans change quickly, so what you heard seven years ago means nothing if nothing has been said since to credit it. All of that aside, I'd bet Toho will roll out more Godzilla movies in the future. Godzilla is a profitable franchise (and far beyond just movies) but Toho has repeatedly saturated the market with half-arsed movies and in some ways damaged Godzilla's image. The other issue is that at the present monster movies are not that big, both internationally and in Japan. Japan has had their share of monster movies this past decade but anyone who's seen some of them know they're doing the giant monster sub-genre no favors, as much as we can appreciate them ourselves. Well executed movies could lightly awaken the sub-genre again in some markets. We'll have to see how well the Legendary Godzilla, Pacific Rim, and Cloverfield 2 do at the box office to even begin to speculate on that. I blame execution pitfalls for a lot of this sub-genre's problems with box office success (or lack thereof) and just being taken seriously at all. So we'll see, but Toho and others need to focus on quality rather than quantity.

As for a Godzilla vs Gamera, I'm personally against it. I am no expert, but I don't subscribe to the notion that this crossover would just print money for Toho and Kadokawa. I was thinking the exact thing said a couple of pages back about how this would've done better in the late-60s or especially the 70s. Gamera was more of an international figure then, whereas today he simply is not. For the most part you have to be a monster movie fan to know he exists at all. I do agree that if the movie was made the best way to go about it would include something with Godzilla and Gamera fighting but then teaming up against a duo of other monsters, probably one from each franchise's history or whatever. Another issue is that Gamera was intended to ape Godzilla to some extent for financial success like many other monster movies from that era, and Toho may not want what they perceive as a ripoff to stand in the same light as Godzilla, shoulder to shoulder. Gamera's future is probably much more in limbo than Godzilla's.

GMK actually shows one way to do a Godzilla vs. Gamera film without doing an injustice to either legend.

The story could put Godzilla in the role of the all-but-unstoppable villain. Gamera (in this film, anyway) would be clearly less powerful than Godzilla, and get the living daylights knocked / blasted out of him in their preliminary battles. Gamera's good at that, and in Legion and Irys he was up against opponents more powerful than himself (until he generated new powers, in each case.) So Gamera would be the underdog, just like KG, Mothra and Baragon were outclassed in GMK.

In the end, humanity would be able to defeat Godzilla with super-weapons, but only because Gamera attacked him again, at the same time.

Godzilla fans could go home happy, because events had shown the Big G to be more powerful; and the integrity of the G-saga would be preserved. After all, Godzilla has many times, quite effectively, been portrayed as the enemy that must be defeated, if mankind is to survive.

Gamera fans could go home happy, because he kept fighting even when it seemed like suicide, then came from behind and "won"... with a little help from his friends.

If not the fighting-and-then-teaming-up-against-a-common-enemy idea, this would be my second choice. Or have Gamera sacrifice himself.

As a kid I made my own fan fiction where Godzilla from G2k fought against Gamera from GOU (It was the only 90's Gamera movie released at the 90's). I had them become firends at the end when they team up against a new powerful foe.

I have a feeling something like that will happen where they will become friends at the end.

It really depends on character iteration a bit.

The Showa versions of both creatures would be total buds. Hesei versions, fight to the death. Toto would be incinerated by any Millennium Godzilla.

I'll be frank, I haven't seen Gamera: New/Little Braves yet, that was more of a cocky joke on my part, primarily given the big-eyed design.

I thought the Gamera in the beginning of GTB was really old and overwhelmed. I saw Toto's egg as kind of a reincarnation, like a phoenix or Mothra even.

As others have stated here, the most likely answer is "no". Giant monster movies have not been successful at the box office in Japan for many years so the studios are waiting for interest to build again before getting back into that genre. Toho has had several consecutive years of record-breaking box office since they stopped making Godzilla movies, so there's no financial incentive to force another Godzilla movie on an audience that hasn't shown they want one. The 50th anniversary movie bombed so Toho's not going to crank out another one just because the 60th anniversary is coming up.

Many fans repeat and repeat the claim that "Toho said they would make another one in 10 years".... but that's not what Toho said. Some people just misunderstood what producer Shogo Tomiyama said in interviews leading up to GODZILLA: FINAL WARS. Tomiyama was often asked about the future of the Godzilla series, and he mentioned the gap between TERROR OF MECHAGODZILLA and GODZILLA '84 and said he expected a similar stretch of time before the next movie. In one interview he said, “From here on it will be at least 5-10 years before another production”. He also made the statements, "The next Godzilla film will be something created by perhaps a new generation, and I will be in the audience to appreciate it." and "so long as Godzilla keeps fascinating people, I believe he will be resurrected by new generations of filmmakers in the future." At a Tokyo press conference he said "Until there is completely new technology and know-how, we won't be making another Godzilla movie."

In none of the interviews did he state a new movie would be coming in 2014 (or any other year). And Toho never declared or announced that a new Godzilla movie would be released then, either. The studio doesn't plan movies years in advance... Godzilla's return at Toho would depend on on several factors (box office trends, talent available, customer interest, etc) that can't be predicted 5-10 years ahead. That's just not how they do things.

There's also the deal with Legendary Pictures for a new American GODZILLA movie, and Toho's not going to mess with that because its worth MUCH more money to them than they would make from doing their own film in Japan. While Toho did make GODZILLA 2000 while TriStar's GODZILLA 2 was being developed, one big reason for that was that TriStar was not happy with how the 1998 GODZILLA performed both financially and critically so the release of a sequel was pushed back while they and Centropolis tried to figure how get things back on track (obviously, that didn't happen). That delay left a nice big window for Toho to do their own film, and they took advantage of the opportunity.

Things are different now. Like Arbok wrote, the 1990s Godzilla movies had been box office hits so Toho saw a financial reason to make G2000. There's no such motivation these days.

And early this year, Shozo Watanabe of Toho spelled it out when he said, "Toho does not have a plan to produce or release its own Godzilla movie at present."

Second do you think a new toho series will open up with Gamera vs Godzilla because their were rummors that daie wanted to produce a crossover flim but toho wanted to make final wars and I also heard that daie wanted to sell gamera to toho.

The rumors got a lot of details wrong. Daiei no longer exists... a decade ago they were bought by Kadokawa Publishing and merged into that company's Kadokawa Pictures division. The revivals of the old Daiei franchises like GAMERA THE BRAVE, THE GREAT YOKAI WAR and DAIMAJIN KANON were all made by Kadokawa, and it was Kadokawa who approached Toho about co-producing a "Godzilla vs Gamera" movie in 2002 (not when GFW was in production). Toho said no for several reasons, among them that Toho doesn't want Godzilla sharing the screen with the competition (notice that Godzilla has never done crossovers with non-Toho Japanese franchises), and they don't want to share the profits from a Godzilla movie. Unless that attitude changes, "Godzilla vs Gamera" will always be extremely unlikely of happening.

Kadokawa is a massive and successful corporation so they're not looking to sell off Gamera. And even if they were, Toho's not interested in making giant monster movies these days so they probably wouldn't want to buy Gamera.

I like this. I would like to see a Movie like this. But Legendary's Godzilla Movie will hit the Theatres in 2013 or 2014. So it's unlikely that a New Toho Godzilla Movie will be realeased in 2014.

The only way it could happen is if Godzilla and Gamera come across each other and fight for a while, then a powerful monster comes along and woops they're asses. So they decide to team up and defeat the monster. Then it wouldn't be a "vs" film then would it? Dammit!

A while back, i saw a thing on the web that said Gamera vs. Godzilla was to be planned, but was cancled because of the winner.

And the winner was....Gamera.

Toho thought that this loss could make the turtle a big sucsess in later films, while Godzilla would struggle in the box office. I think the better way to resolve the situation ws to have the battle end with both monsters dead in a draw.
