Heisei Series Discussion

Well good for you, I personally loved this era, my favorite of all of them.

The series is not consistent in my opinion. That means three things, that it wasn't consistently great, bad, or anything in between ... in my opinion of course. The Heisei series gave birth to two of my favorite Godzilla movies, RoG and Biollante, yet one of my least favorite, like Spacegodzilla, and some "meh" like KG (the rest fall elsewhere).

While it's easily the worst of the 3 Japanese eras, they're not examples of how inept filmmaking can get.

Godzilla... in these films... was too massive to be considered physically logical even in its own sci fi realm

if you're meaning scientifically, then giant monsters in general (from Kong to any incarnation of Godzilla) are virtually impossible. The idea of a monster that is abnormally large has approximately ten times the strength of a normal form, but one hundred times the body mass. Animals like the dinosaurs survived because their bodies were naturally adapted to meet these conditions. Even if Godzilla was a dinosaur prior to becoming the freak he was. He still grew significantly.

Anyways, this is my least favorite of the three series-es, but that doesn't make in bad by any stretch of my mind.

I merged this in with one of the other general Heisei Series discussion threads we have floating around in here. Should anyone else feel like discussing the series as a whole, just use thread please.

As far as the series itself goes, there are things I like (the '91 Godzilla design, Mecha-King Ghidorah, the Burning Godzilla concept, etc.) but I'm generally not a fan. Even with the more praised Heisei Godzilla films, Godzilla 1985 and Godzilla vs. Biollante, I find that there are too many problems with characters, pacing, and writing for me to fully get into them. As the series goes on, you can add special effects issues to that list as well. Plus, Godzilla vs. Space Godzilla exists in this series. That alone hurts it. I do enjoy some of the films, such as Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, but none of them are particularly "good".
