Coincidentally, that first time was the Sci-Fi Saturday morning airing, which, correct me if I'm wrong was the first wide-release of it here?
I recorded the whole she-bang on VHS.
Rebirth of Mothra 1-3 (yeah, I have the dub of part 3), GMK and G vs. Megaguirus after staying up all night in anticipation.

I even manually cut the commercials by stopping and restarting the REC.

EVERY TIME.

It was TOTALLY worth it.

The irony was I got this one as a Christmas present on DVD while I still hated it. Don't think I'd have ever had another chance to see it otherwise as both of my local rental stores that carried Godzilla items have since closed.

I remember recording Hedorah, Gigan, Megalon and MechaGodzilla on VHS during a SyFy marathon but the tape's been lost for years. I only watched it once and just a snippet of Hedorah.

^I also recorded the original dub of Destroy All Monsters the first time it aired on Sci-Fi back in...jeez, what year was that. It was an Olympic year...Hell, I was real young.

And I refuse to acknowledge anything called "Sy-Fy". I don't even know what in the hell a "Sy-Fy" is...

Sy-Fy is when you take something people think is lame and try to make it sound cooler and fail at it :P

Sony picked up MEGAGUIRUS and GMK at the same time and gave both movies an interesting release in the US. First, subtitled prints of both were screened at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood in August 2003, then later that same month they were shown dubbed and edited on Sci-Fi, and finally the DVDs came out the following January. It was fun having both movies released three different ways in such a short time.

I enjoyed GMK a lot. I especially enjoyed the kaiju fight scenes. Also, wasn't Godzilla (1998) referenced in here?

^ At the beginning, during the G-Force briefing. One of the guys says to another that something happened in New York and they thought it was Godzilla.

Yeah, I wanted someone behind them to come in to frame and go "OH SNAP!" and then leave the frame.

It's one of the better films in the series for sure, but I hated it at first because Godzilla walks like Steve Urkel in a couple of wide shots when he first makes land fall, and I lost the illusion that he was a badass right then and there.
