This is a damn good thing. For the inevitable commentaries and featurettes, will they take from the CM releases, do you think?
It isn't conderacting if i'm pissed.

I wouldn't get excited until it's posted on SciFi Japan.

 Waaah?!! This is amazing. I sure hope they buy the rights to rest of the films.
Okay that's just rambling and wishful thinking by now.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I was asked not to run anything on SFJ until Criterion was ready to make an announcement, but the photo on their FB page has now made it public that something is in the works. Criterion and Toho have been keeping a few people (teehee, indeed!) in the loop about what exactly is planned, but I want to make sure I have their okay before getting too specific.

Oh f@ck...this is far too awesome for words. I've been dying for a Criterion Godzilla ever since I got my Seven Samurai Blu-Ray. I had my doubts that it would actually happen, but shit here it is.

Yeah, I've always considered Seven Samurai and Godzilla "sister films".

^1954 was a great year for Japanese cinema, no doubt.

This is just unbelievable! If this does come true, it will probably be the most anticipated Godzilla DVD/BD release yet.

Well, something is up. I'm not going to assume that they are going to release Gojira on DVD yet, though.

Hell, for all we know, Criterion could have the rights to Return of Godzilla. Although that's probably just extremely wishful thinking on my part.

This is a great year for kaiju films. Gamera gets the blu-ray treatment, so does DAM and Megalon. And now Gojira. If only 1985 and Biollante would too.

If Criterion wants me to br impressed, that silly assed Italian colorization better be on this.

Prepare for a kaiju DVD experience beyond your expectations of what we have usually received. Criterion has a knack for actually making their DVDs better than Toho's, for example, compare Toho's DVD of Seven Samurai vs. Their 3 disc set:

http://tohokingdom.com/web_pages/dvd/re ... i_toho.htm
vs.
http://tohokingdom.com/dvd/seven_samurai_cri06.htm

(IDK about the pic comparison on the R2 DVD review, pretty sure the review was written before the deluxe Criterion set)

Enhanced picture quality vs. the classic media DVD? That would be cool.

With Criterion, there could not only a possible compilation of special features from many sources (Japanese blu-ray, Classic Media's DVD set or the BFI DVD, or even the 40th Anniversary Laserdisc Box Set) but possible creation of new special features with interviews with surviving members of the production and such. Of course, this is all speculation, but Criterion is top of the line so it would be cool if they made a deluxe DVD set. They have been wanting to release this since the 1990's (so I've heard) so I have some expectations for this.

I just hope the case artwork is better than this:

I guess now would be a good time to resurrect that "dream kaiju DVD" topic from a while back.

As the guy before me said, pardon my ignorance.

So now that Criterion has it, that means CM doesn't anymore? Stupid question I'm sure but I'm a little confused.
I was mentioned in the SciFi Japan article about the appearence of extras on the Godzilla vs. Megalon DVD.
