Believe it or not, I actually liked this movie. I thought Syfy made it, but they didn't. That must explain why it appealed to me.

^ Did Asylum make that movie...it looks like something they would conjure up in their deep dark pathetic studio? (Sorry I can't stand Asylum)

The ABOMINABLE poster shown there, and on the first DVD of the flick was painted/drawn by the same gentleman who did the posterart for all the Star Wars flicks, Indiana Jones, Back To the Future Trilogy, and a metric ton of classics from our youth. And ABOMINABLE was an indepeendent picture that was quite popular on the film festival circuit. Then its debute on the Sci-Fi Channel was one of their highest rated Saturday night flicks, before it was picked up by Anchor Bay Video for distribution on DVD format. A few years back a sequel, according to the flick's director/writer, a sequel was being co-scripted with the Godfather of G.I. JOE, Larry Hama. The plot featured a group of National Guard soldiers in the Flatwoods Mountains having to fight for their lives against other members of the creature killed in the first.

I think this movie would have sucked.

No, not really, I'd have rather seen this than any of the Godzilla lost projects. This had real potential, unlike the Godzilla projects in that this wasn't just a new star vehicle for the same character(s) and/or someone new. No, this was a unique project, and a joint between two famous film companies.

I'd take this over any of the stupid Bagan movies any day.

LOL yeah. And each time that happens every single comment is something along the lines of, "That would have been so cool! It's such a shame it didn't happen!" Because every unmade movie would have been a masterpiece right?

So what if it sucked?

If you make a movie, you take a chance on producing something entertaining. If you don't make it, well, the odds of making a good movie are precisely zero. So yes, it's always a shame if a picture doesn't get off the ground, especially when you've got some decent folks in the potential talent pool. Hammer and Toho? Sounds like the best pairing since gin and tonic.

Eh, if this was made, it could've gone one of two ways. It could've been okay, or it could've sucked. I would've seen it either way. We already had the Giant Sea Snake from King Kong Escapes by the time this was released, along with Manda. There really would be no need for another serpentine kaiju. I would've seen it either way.

I do think it's unfortunate this never came about, even if the monster itself actually did get used in a different movie many years later. A well done Loch Ness Monster picture would've had some solid appeal in the western world, I suspect.

The fact Nessie was the star would have drawn interest. It probably would have shown up on tv.

This would have been really cool. Fresh Toho monsters are always welcome in my book, and it would be fun to see if Nessie would eventually get integrated into the Godzilla series, even if it was just a cameo or two.

I think its sweet that they werent just going to make it a movie about discovering Nessie and saving it or learning about it...no this Nessie is a brute and went on a rampage destroying an oil rig. I really wish this was made. Oh Toho WHYYY!!!

I would've actually preferred if the movie would keep the Loch Ness Monster from being aggressive or confrontational, as that helps the viewer suspend belief and connect with the very quiet monster we're all familiar with in modern folklore. Something to the effect of someone credible creating a stir and interest in the LNM again in the present day, claiming to have seen it or gotten a picture. Scientists and other experts are granted a submarine and other equipment to put the myth to rest ... or make an unprecedented discovery. There is a distress call and the submarine confirms there is a giant creature that's attacking the sub, sinking it. Then they launch attack subs and such to kill the creature, thinking it aggressive. They chase it around and it fights back, or maybe it comes on land briefly too, yadda yadda. I came up with that on the fly so it's not well thought out, but a lesson in man just destroying what we don't understand and leaving some creatures alone would've made sense. It was only defending itself when it felt threatened, otherwise it had been benevolent since forever.

I maintain that Toho should still make this movie someday as it would have global appeal (particularly in the western world) and is a somewhat different monster movie than most of what Toho has made, especially recently.

Last week for my birthday I got a copy of the Bob Eggleton and Nigel suckling collaboration, THE BOOK OF SEA MONSTERS. in the book's epilogue. The sadly scrapped joint effort between Hammer and Toho was talked about, and a bit of plot came out. On top of the title monster leaving the confines of the loch. Apparently part of the deal called for Nessie to be exposed to an experimental growth hormone. Presumably, said growth hormone would've increased the beast size to probably daikaiju size, and make Nessie quite a bit more agressive as well. Driving her on one heck of a rampage in the course of the flick.
