Monster Discussion #61: Destoroyah

Post by JVM »

Destoroyah... I really think I need a refresher on the movie before I say anything but I remember him being visually stunning but having one of the less interesting plots going on, but again I haven't seen GvD since 2006 or so, my memory is hazy. Still, he's a very visually fascinating monster and he killed Junior - he's a cruel bastard. If any Heisei monsters return in the future, I think Destoroyah is the one I'd most like to see back.
I used to be a lot more optimistic and outgoing, believe it or not. I used to actually be passionate about this stuff.

hIs design is so EXTREME!

And also i like how he is created by the same weapon which killed the first Godzilla.

But the inner jaw ruins his reputation a bit.

Destoroyah, in my opinion, is Godzilla's ultimate foe. He was created by the same device constructed to kill the original Godzilla, went toe to toe with Meltdown Godzilla and for the most part had the upper hand, and effectivly killed Godzilla (at first). His designs all look really good, especially his final form. I'd like to see him make a comeback sometime in the future, perhaps if LPG is successful.

Hes one of my favorite of Godzilla's enemies. He looks like the devil, hes incredibly powerful, and i cant think of anything (besides maybe Kiryu if he got lucky) that could defeat Destroyah. He was created by the most powerful weapon ever used against Godzilla and he is only outmatched in sadism and ruthlessness by GMK Godzilla. Hes the perfect foe and id like to see him again.

He looks cool, his creation is interesting. But like almost everything in the Heisei era, while it may look cool or have an interesting concept, it's execution was poor. His fight with Godzilla was fun, but it was very sluggish and clumsy. But none of that stops him from being one of my favorite monsters.

Easily my favorite Heisei original and one of my favorite monster overall. To start off, it looks so demonic, like the Devil himself decided to screw around with Japan. And then its brutality is just overwhelming. It killed Junior AND knocked around Godzilla's strongest form like a plush toy. To go along with its insane strength and endurance, the laser horn is a wicked power. Its origin is almost one of the most meaningful in my eyes. Gojira has had lots of powerful foes, but only Dessy was created by the very weapon that killed the original Godzilla.

I'm gonna echo JVM and say that Destoroyah is my top choice for a Heisei original to return (although Battra and SpaceGodzilla are nipping at his heels). I'd LOVE to see Godzilla and Desy just going at it, no stops, no distraction, just two rival powerhouses fighting to the death.

one of the best villians ever in the franchise. The final form is probably the best out of the forms imo (even though it needed to be slimmed down a bit)

the idea of a monster spawned by the very weapon that killed the first goji was a pretty good idea, esp after the spacegodzilla fiasco lol
Gojirawars 03 wrote: The Giant Condor is a blessing upon this Earth, however. He's easily the most important and most powerful kaiju in the franchise. so powerful that Godzilla is helpless against his power, and pleads for mercy, which the gracious Condor grants him. I mean, even the editor wasn't able to show a single shot of the Condor onscreen for more than half a second, because no-one can handle that much sheer power for more than a second.

I like Destroyah. One of my top 5 favorite Kaiju and easily gave Godzilla one of his toughest battles. Sure he may not be Sadistic but he is a jerk for killing Jr. lol

The fact that he killed Junior, coupled with the fact that Junior was such a focal point in that movie, was one of the reasons he is viewed as being so sadistic. His appearance magnifies his personality. In all his forms, he just looks plain evil. Besides Biollante, he's my favorite Heisei original.

Destroyah is pretty evil. His design is well-crafted and definitely detailed. And he killed Junior. That really puts him higher on the totem pole of monsters. Strange as it seems, I don't really like him. Something just doesn't click with me and him.

He didn't really stand out in terms of abilities. He looked great. Another thing, as far as the Heisei originals go, Destoroyah has the best backstory of any of them, bested only by Biollante (IMO), who gets that nod for being completely original.

Destoroyah should have used that laser horn to cut of Jr. head, that would have been awesome.

Personally, I'm just always going to be disappointed the chest beam was never used. As soon as I saw Dessy I wanted to know what was up with that weird shit chest.

Destroyah is easily my favoret of all of Godzilla's enemies, his final form looks like the devil just pure awsomeness. with the notable exception of the Oxogen destroyer from the first movie Destroyah came the closest to killing Godzilla in his burnt form whichis stronger than his normal form.

Destroyah was the perfect villain for the film. Destroyah is powerful and merciless. I do agree that the Aggregate form was more interesting. That spider/scorpion design was ferocious looking.

I honestly don't give a shit how powerful the final stage was. It was still an oversized, immobile, fatass of a monster suit that could barely move.

Not a huge fan.
Odd... the post I made earlier in response to this statement seemed to have vanished...

Anyhow, if the suit had been mobile, Destroyah could've been one of the most badass monsters in the series.

The ultimate Godzilla Foe (Excluding King Ghidorah and Mothra) being created by a weapon that killed the Original Goji
proves of how dangerous this monster is for Godzilla or all around the land its been oversaidto death that he looks like
a Demon but he does it fits for a villain to look terrifiying, its first three stages look creepy in its own will and each roar
sounds very evil and Scary, i hope he returns in a future movie.

Destroyah overall was pretty cool. Juvenile form looked cool but was too stiff to be believable, which was improved slightly with the Aggregate form but was still a factor. Flying form was nice but again seemed too stiff. The Final form looked great but -as others pointed out- the suit made it basically immobile, ruining what could have been an epic battle.
