Postby Hellspawn28 » Mon Jul 11, 2011 6:21 pm

This thread is for the upcoming Disney movie based off of the series of books from Edgar Rice Burroughs (The Creator of Trazan) and the series of books that inspire James Cameron's Avatar. The movie is set to be released on March 9th 2012 and will be directed by Andrew Stanton (A Bug's Life, Finding Nemo, Wall-E). Starring Bryan Cranston (Saving Private Ryan), Ciaran Hinds (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 & 2), Daryl Sabara (Spy Kids 1-4), Dominic West (300), James Purefoy (Resident Evil), Lynn Collins (13 Going on 30), Mark Strong (Kick-Ass), Taylor Kitsch (Who played as Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Willem Dafoe (Platoon).

The teaser is set to be release this weekend with the final Harry Potter movie.

I never read the books but I hear about them. The film has a great director and a good cast, I will check this out for sure.

I've heard about it and Dynamite Entertainment is doing a series about it, so I would be interested but so far I'm meh. Maybe the comics will change my minds but I was really looking forward to this when I heard Pixar was going it but now, meh. More Excited for Live Action Tarzan really.

They said that this movie will be PG-13 and they said it will be a full CG world similar to Avatar (2009), and Green Lantern (2011). From what I've read that they have been doing a movie of John Carter of Mars for 80 years since Bob Clampett try doing a movie in the 1930's before the studio try to scrap it. Ray Harryhausen was set to do a movie of the novel in the 1960's and John McTiernan to direct a movie in the 80's with Tom Cruise as the main star of the film. Paramount try to do in the 2000's after the box office hit of Lord of the Rings in 2001.

So I saw the new teaser trailer, which isn't really a teaser but more like a shorter tradition trailer. Yeah, meh to it. I REALLY don't like the idea the Sky of Mars isn't red, I mean really what the hell!?

CGI, I really don't concern myself anymore unless it's that terrible looking because we're never going to get Avatar-like CGI from a bunch of other companies for a very very long time.

The John Carter books are VERY VERY fast reads. Theyre what I call Boys Adventure Lite.

I dont see a movie doing that well ...it needs to be dark, gritty and gorey to be good IMHO.

I'll see it of course..

It seems like Disney is actually accept making PG-13 movies nowadays ever since the Pirates films. I can't say I'm really interested, but if it looks good, I may consider it.

This could be really awful, but for the moment I'm excited. Decent enough trailer.

I do like that Pixar is involved though.

I think the teaser was cool, I hope the full trailer will be better. I hope this movie does not bomb like Mars Needs Moms (2011) did, I don't think that many people know about the John Carter books.

Rewatched it again today and all I've gotta say is this:
What the hell was I thinking!? This trailer looks friggin awesome and it's a teaser man, SOO pumped for this. My only real complaint is MARS NEEDS TO BE FRIGGIN RED! It's the red planet, it needs a red sky and it needs red sand. come on...

It's the movie I didn't know I was excited for until I saw the Teaser.

On a scale of 1- to LP Godzilla, I'm probably an 8 for John Carter. Goddamn it looks incredible.

I went through a big Scientific Romance binge in high school and remember reading one of the John Carter stories and getting a kick out of it. Very happy to see this come to the big screen.

Look at what we could be in for!

Although it's a shame that Harryhausen never got a chance to do an adaptation. Those creatures would've been perfect for the Golden Age of Dynamation.

Yeah, pretty much Conan the barbarian IN SPACE.... but with a lack of TITTIES.....

Seeing that imagine alone shows me I'm in for a treat.

It would be skreeonk awesome.

Not sure what to think about this film at the moment. The trailer gave me a big Prince of Persia vibe and Prince of Persia looked rather...bland. :/

John Carter? Conan in space?

Proof that MG again is claiming he read something that he never has.

John Carter is a 19th century gentleman adventurer - pulp.
Conan is a dark ages barbian warrior - boy's adventure.

Comparison fail.

Ah, but Conan is pulp fiction!
In fact, Howard created Conan specifically,
so he could engorge on the expanding pulp outlet.

Conan is considered Boy's Adventure. It was similiar, but not the same as pulp.

I am perfectly aware Robert E. Howard created both. He also created Cormac.

Then why is it,
That whenever I look up popular Pulp fiction,
Conan is always in my bizznit?
