What Do You Expect?

i expect a well created, and crafted Godzilla that stays true to the orginal but have a little bit tweak in its look. Nothing dramatic. Also wouldnt mind little bit of human character development, but nothing to over the top. Basically i want an overall great movie.

I'm excited for this, but I don't have expectations like "It needs to be dark". "It needs more action" "There needs to be no Toho monsters, because I'm tired of the same old monsters"

I'll just watch it, and if it's good great, if it's bad, oh well.

We only have one example of an American Godzilla, so I think that it's rather unfair to assume that, by its very nature, it couldn't live up to hype. I agree that we shouldn't set our expectations too high (or too specific) because LP can't tailor the film to please every single nit-picky fan out there as well as the general public, though.

For example, I think expectations such as "recognizable as the classic Godzilla" and "a film that takes its material seriously" are reasonable. Getting too demanding, wanting certain monsters, certain tones, etc. is just setting yourself up for butthurt.

What I Expect to happen:

- The film will be dark and gritty something similar to the Nolan Batman movies and the upcoming Spider-Man movie. It seems like they want to go for that tone and it seems likely

- The movie will have a lead character being scientist and most of the human cast will be pretty forgettable. I would imagine that the movie will try to focus more on Godzilla then the lead human characters. Something similar how Rise of the Planet of the Apes was is possible.

- Maybe one or two homages to the Japanese movies

- Godzilla looking like and acting like his Japanese counter part

- People will still bitch about the film even if it's a good film.

I don't believe there's anything inherently wrong with high expectations, as long as you can deal with disappointment (which of course, not many people can handle). I've expected many things from hyped movies, songs, games, etc. But I'm never that disappointed when it turns out I didn't get what I wanted.

Besides, it can be entertaining to see other people complain.

Google "Godzilla 2012 Brian Rogers", and a video interview where he confirmed this, should be the first thing to pop up. He says he will fight an "other monster, or monsters".

...That hardly implies Godzilla will fight SEVERAL monsters.

In all seriousness, I haven't actually come across anyone on the internet or RL who says it's a bad movie. I've heard people call it overrated, but they always admitted it was at least "good". Kinda strange.

1. Has to have good actors. They dont have to be well known, just believable.
2. Realistic, dark and serious. As much as i like some camp or silliness, i want a heavy atmosphere infused into the affairs this time around.
3. Characters must be likeable and well fleshed out, but not so much so that Godzilla gets little or no screen time.
4. Fine with most other monsters, but they shouldnt be too powerful so that they dont take the focus off Godzilla.
5. I dont know if this is going to happen but I would personally like to see Godzilla connected to radiation.
6. A Godzilla that looks and acts like Godzilla. I shouldnt have to say this, but just a precaution after the 1998 trainwreck.
