The Beach Boys

Despite their popularity, I find that The Beach Boys are rather overlooked. I've been starting to listen to them recently, and they're really growing on me.

Anyway, discuss.

Kokomo is interesting is it's one of their few songs that's a #1 hit that was made not in the 60's.

I'm a HUGE fan. Don't even get me started. And yes, they are very overlooked. Everyone sings the praises of Pet Sounds on their best albums lists, but how many people have heard it? It's incredible stuff.

And then there are epics masterpieces like Surf's Up that hardly anyone has heard of: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WUI4DhU ... re=related

Then again, the stuff from Smile never really got finished the way Brian wanted until he was too old to hit his high notes. Still turned out great, though. Here's Surf's Up in 2004: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJWuQV2u9ns

I heard Smile is going to be released this August by Capitol.

Today! is also a great album, I think it might be my favorite.

Yeah, I'm really excited to hear the original Smile recordings. Today! used to by my favorite, but then Pet Sounds started growing on me. Now it's Pet Sounds, then Today and Summer Days and Summer Nights.

I like them. I went to Typhoon Lagoon this summer and they were played so much. Sadly, that "Beach-y Rock" (if that's what you wanna call it) outbeat the Beach Boys IMO. Epic drum rolls...

I love I'm Waiting for the Day. The timpani drums are a great touch.
