What Toho Films Deserve the VIP Treatment?

VIP Treatment: Release of both the original Japanese version and the American and/or International versions, as well as commentaries and other special features. Classic Media and Tokyo Shock both perform as such in their releases.

I figured it'd be an interesting topic, especially since this is pretty much the quietest forum on the board... anyway, all Godzilla films are up for grabs, except of course those they've already done, not just the two unavailable on R1 DVD.

I'd like to see "King Kong vs. Godzilla" and "The Return of Godzilla" considering both have significant Japanese vs. American differences, plus I think some neat docs/featurettes could be added to KKvG regarding the infamous alternate ending rumor, and the latter due to the various concepts posed before the final film came about.

King Kong Vs. Godzilla and Destroy All Monsters. The only good thing you could say about their current R1 DVDs is that their in widescreen(DAM isn't anamorphic, though). The Madman R4 DVD of DAM is really good.

King Kong vs. Godzilla most deserves it. But it'll never happen, because Universal has permanent dibsies on that film.

The Return of Godzilla, since, once the planets align, the moon turns blue, and it rains fish, it's possible that it could happen.

Godzilla vs. Megalon, Return of Godzilla and Godzilla vs. Biollante. Basically that. Never will happen, but I just want those on R1 already.

Godzilla vs. Megalon would be the most realistic out of all them because it's the only one whose US rights are not already bought out, last time I checked. It's still under public domain, no?

I think the rights to the film are either going to be reverting back to Toho soon, or have already. Goodtimes had the rights for ever..but I think they've since gone under.

I think the only problem with this thread is that CM has already stated (like Sony) that they will not be buying the rights to any more Godzilla films. I can see Sony changing their mind with the Legendary film being announced, but CM is a much smaller company. I'm sure they'll stick to their guns.

Nobody in this thread said anything about CM releasing more DVDs JVM was just asking what films should get the treatment that CM gave them ie dual language, commentaries and a few other extras.

And I did mention in the first post, I don't expect new DVDs, but speculation is fun and is the main reason I still come to forums.

It's not pointless. Nothing says Sony might never wise up and release Classic Media-esque DVDs, or any other DVD company.

It's not so much about Classic Media as much as the treatment they put into their discs. There's nothing uniquely Classic Media about it, except that they're the only ones who did it.

I think every movie deserves to be released in a dual version release. Especially if it's done with the care and attention to details Classic Media's releases or Sony's Icons of Sci-Fi have. But it's regretable to have such something like Media Blasters' awful recreation of Frankenstein Conquers the World.

I agree. It's sad about FCTW, especially since the German DVD contains the original AIP version (dubbed in Deutsch with opening and ending credits in Deutsch as well).

Well originally the topic was "Which Godzilla Film MOST Deserves The Classic Media Treatment?" but in addition to changing CM to VIP for the sake of the technicality, I chose to change Godzilla Film to Toho Film and from there simply to shorten the title.

You know, I think the whole Heisei series could use a real dual-version release. G84 and Biollante are unavailable on R1 DVD. Ghidorah, Mothra, SpaceGodzilla and Destoroyah had no Japanese audio. And Mechagodzilla 2 had freaking dubtitles and random echo effects on the audio. I think, regardless of how these movies rank compared to others, they had some effort put into them to make them better than their predecessors, and deserve some real recognition, rather than the shit releases out now.
For the Showa era, King Kong vs. Godzilla is a classic and deserves a better release than Universal gave it.
As for the Millennium series, I think they could all stand to be re-released with proper subtitles and no plain English text blocking out the *beautiful* CGI Japanese titles, but G2K was altered significantly (I'd say it was the last real "Americanization") and had no Japanese track, so it probably should be issued in a dual-version edition.

If any movie gets a special edition, it'll probably be Destroy All Monsters since it went to Section 23, but as far as I know, they only have what ADV had the rights for and that's just the International Dub.
