The subs on the R3 are in English and Mandarin (I believe) at the same time (different portions of the screen) so it is irritating. Also the translations are not the best. It's been a while since I've seen the Region 3, but I remember it was very difficult to follow at times. For example: (check the Region 3 DVD review on the Toho Kingdom main site) they translate a line about Godzilla having an active sonar to godzilla having Missles. :eh:

I'm not sure how SumoGorilla has subtitles on the dvd. I'll email them and find out.

Edit: Alright I got my email from the guy who owns SumoGorilla this morning (sorry, I was too busy to post this). It turns out that accompany he knows takes tons of Japanese Films and tv shows and translates/subtitles them. From the dvd's that I have purchased from them so far, I can say that the subtitles they do are very accurate. Definitely better than Sony's Dubtitles, and way better than "Hong Kong Subs". For the price and quality of the films they offer, I wouldn't mind picking up a few more.

I might have to pick this up. Unless there is impending new on a legitimate R1 with accurate English subs sometime in the near future.

It's not bad. The two disk comes with Godzilla 1985 as well. I just have the single disk, so I can't comment on the quality of '85.

Meh, I couldn't care less about GODZILLA 1985. Also, in that link you gave it says that 85 is full screen.

Unless they had access to the Monsters HD version, GODZILLA 1985 is only really available in it's cropped form anyway. I think even the U.S. LD was pan and scan.

The Monster HD Version is readily available in the dark corners of the internet so having the VHS copy isn't the best of ideas. Then again, I don't get stuff from Sumogorilla however for rare stuff, I do get it from another place that starts with S.

I own all of these discs. I don't care if they're bootlegs or not; I think they are decent quality, and I'm happy with them. If you can find 'em cheap, knock yourself out.

I didn't buy them from that site, though.

Me too. The only way to see something you want to see is sometimes not the greatest option, but I've done it.

So I wanted to come to the people who might know. Is this DVD worth it?

No, for it is bootleg garbage.

Gawd Im so totally sick of people saying this...

Volrath...do you have an R3 DVD player or a region free player? If so, go with the R3, if not go with an R0 bootleg. There's a website I know here in NJ that I'll give you a link to that has RoG though I dont think it has G85 on it as well. If thats a selling point for you, go with your linked DVD

The one I get stuff that begins with a S does have both Japanese and American versions. In fact, the American version is sourced off the Monsters HD version.

THAT'S the one. :P Great place. If it's what I'm thinking of; my DVD from them has G85 but it's from a VHS source.

I have a few DVDs from that same set, and they're really good. They're region free, I think.

Mine all say region 2 on the back, but they play in both of my reg 1 players, so I don't know.

The case is probably just copied from an R2.

Probably. I know they're bootlegs, but they seem to be of good quality, so I'm happy. :D

Does the cover on this buttleg feature the teaser poster art on the front? Cuz that's the one I got years ago.

Ok, I actually have 2 copies. The one listed at the start of this thread has just a picture of G in Tokyo Bay. The other has the orange picture of him towering over the city, if that's what you mean. I think that was an actual movie poster.
